Please help me with any ideas.... i left the bike for bout 5months in the sun, the rain, basicly a bad idea... i got it to start and it runs really rough, idel was fine, then i changed the plugs to a ngk cr8e was originally cr9e and it has the same problem. runs but can seem to get any power to wheels, i put sea foam in and check if any of the coil wires are damage... none. so i changed the plug to factory specs, and it ran a little better, but can never get it to high rpm levels... when i whack the throttle i stalls and then goes but by the time it gets to 9000 prm, it slow down and i get no power! i dont know what to do and dont want to have the shop figure this problem out... it was fine before i left but now i dont know what to do or what to check for... PLEASE HELP ME OUT WITH THIS PROBLEM!!! THANKS!!

If they bike has been sitting for an extended period of time, and exposed to the weather, it could be anything. Gasoline today has a very short shelf life before it gets stale and loses it's zip. It also eats some rubber compounds very quickly if it's left sitting. If you can, drain the old gas and get some fresh stuff in there. That might solve your problem. Also, check anything that's rubber of plastic for deterioration. Check all grounds and electrical connections for corrosion. Stay with the stock plugs. Is it running on all cylinders? Next time you start it, wear thick gloves and gently pull off a plug wire and see if the engine changes at all. Repeat for other cylinder(s). This will help you isolate the issue to a specific cylinder. If you can, pull a carb bowl off and see if there's any corrosion or varnish in there. If there is, you may have to pull the whole carb assembly out and clean it. Also, make sure you check for spark at each cylinder.

I keep reading about yanking plug wires to find dead cylinders....
There is a much, MUCH easier way. Just a squirt bottle with some plain water in it. Squirt each head pipe, the one that doesn't sizzle the water off is dead. Spit will work too (stains the pipe though). Si

Sounds like a cylinder may not be firing.
Start the bike, let it run for several minutes at idle if necessary. Take one of those spray bottles with water or chain lube, spray each header with a short burst, it should hiss and evaporate almost immediately with chain lube, instantly with water, if one doesn't, that cylinder isn't firing. While this won't solve the problem, it will help track it down. |
