Question Wave - Going the same direction

Okay, I know there is already a thread about waving to fellow bikers on the road, and everyone has their own personal way with "how" to wave.
Soo, how do you wave to the fellow biker that is going the same direction as you. If they are on my left I can do my normal wave as I see them come up on me or as I pass them. But what if they are on the right side??
It's not like I can (or maybe it's that I don't want) just let off the throttle for a wave. Just curious if anyone has any "typical" thing they do. Thanks!!

I don't think it's that big a deal, usually I'm passing guys on cruisers who probably assume I'm a jerk anyway just because I'm passing them on a sporty looking bike. I've had people come up from behind me and either cruise along side me for a while or stop by, give a wave then keep going, which I think is pretty cool. I usually consider it too but I'm afraid that some people would consider it an invasion of their privacy. A lot of times when you see someone cruising solo they like it that way, and sometimes when you see a group they would prefer for their group to remain exclusive.

So in short, if someone does it for me, cool. But I'm weary of doing it to others because not everybody is so friendly.

Wow, I had to think about that.

If it's not two lanes, I give them the room, I would want others to give me and just follow them. If it's a double lane or better, I usually wave over my shoulder as I go by and keep keepin on.

Let me disect this down a bit. Soo, you think that guys on cruisers think your a jerk because your on a "sporty looking bike"??? Do you think the guy on the cruiser is jealous of your bike or something? I drive a cruiser because that is my "choice". I don't think your a jerk because of what you ride, maybe how you ride it, but not what you ride. I guarantee you I'm not jealous of your bike and I don't think its any better or "sportier" than mine. That comment would lead me to beleive that maybe the guys you are talking about have a plausible reason to think that???? I don't know, but a quick observation makes that statement a quite blatent personal slam to all us cruiser riders!

The world is full of jerks. Don't take on their attitudes or problems.
Just do what you feel is right and go on from there. As long as you are within the bounds of decent actions and attitude then whatever their attitude or actions are should not concern you unless there is obviously a physical threat.

Don't let their "baggage" ruin your day.

I don't mean to slam cruisers or anything like that, out of all my friends that ride I'm the only one on a sport bike, everyone else has a cruiser! I used to ride my dad's cruiser around too.

Now, I am a conservative rider and I'm not the kind of guy that goes blasting through traffic or pulling any stunts, but some people are even more conservative than me, particularly on cruisers. And when someone wearing a leather vest going 60 on a cruiser sees me go past doing 70 on a lime green sport bike wearing full gear, they probably make an assumption about what kind of rider I am. Actually, my statement says more about what I think of sport riders than what I think about cruisers. When I see someone on a cruiser I see a cool guy riding a motorcycle, when I see someone on a sport bike I sometimes imagine them being a "overly confident"* guy that wants to show off. That might make me a hypocrite but that's the kind of image that gets attached to sport bikes, and that's the kind of image that I'm afraid of conveying myself.

To further clarify what I'm trying to say, one of my cruiser-riding friends once mentioned that he had been out riding his cruiser at a rather illegal speed, then a guy on a sport bike came up from behind, gave him a wave then rolled on the throttle and blew him away at an even more illegal speed. For all we know the guy was being friendly and giving a genuinely friendly wave, but my friend on the cruiser took offense to the way he passed.

*had to edit that to make it not look like profanity, which it wasn't but the word is still blocked.

some probably think I'm a jerk cuz I didn't wave and I ride a cruiser....... It's not that I am not friendly but I really get tired of waving every time I pass another bike. I ride mine as daily transportation and maybe I just look at it a little different than the "weekend warriors"
I'll stop and talk with ya where ever we might meet , but I just aint waving all the time ......sorry

I will usually wave at a bike going the same direction I am going. I have wondered if some see it as a kind of "put-down" as I go by them, sort of saying "my bikes faster than yours"...which of course is not my intent. To be honest, more bikes pass me than I pass. Even when I'm on my sport bike, I get passed by lots of cruisers.

I do not let off my throttle to wave, I try to wave with my left. If the bike I'm passing, or that is passing me, is on my right I wave with my left hand across the front of my body, extending out past my right shoulder.

I wave anyway, with my left hand for either side. Before I wave I look at them to let them know that I acknowledge them, then doesn't matter if they know or not I wave. I might look funny waving alone but hey - that's my biker way! If I don't get anything in return I'd just chuckle and let it go.

I normally just give whoever i am passing or being passed by a simple head nod since by the time they are passed a wave is kind of pointless. But I always make sure they have plenty of room to ensure their safety and mine.

Thumbs up Here Today Gone Tomorrow?! ;-)

I'd LIKE to wave or nod at least to other Riders going MY direction. Except that they pass me so darn FAST (sorry folks, especially ya'all on Metrics - Cruisers OR Sports!) that I just don't get the chance! Dang?! What's up with that?! Am I so friggin' slow that they just don't have the time?! OR am I just so raunchy lookin' (?!) that I look like a on the warpath 1%er on a Harley?! I dunno.... it's a bummer in any case, hey?! If ya' see an old fart (with a Walking Cane strapped on the saddlebag) out riddin' north of Sturgis anytime, give me the 'how the heck are ya' salute and you'll get one back... cool?! ;-)

If I can (traffic, road conditions, curves, etc. permitting) I wave when passing or being passed. Just a quick glance and maybe a nod with a left-handed wave. My intent is to recognize and pay respect to another person on a bike. If they wanna take it any other way, that's their problem, not mine.
It doesn't offend me to be passed, whether they wave or not, whatever they're riding, unless they flip me off as they go by. Even if they pull up alongside me, rev their motor and go tearing off like their ass in on fire and their hair is catching! So what? They have a fast bike and they're proud of it. Good for them!!! I'm proud of my bike and show it off at any and every opportunity.
Respects,

Ok, so now your takin shots as us "older men"! I'm 45 does that make me one of them old guys thinkin your a punk!! I just can't catch a break here!!

I'm just teasin with ya bud. It's all cool, we are all freinds in here and as such need to speak our minds. I was just merely pointing out that I didn't care for how it was worded and how that post could/did come across. He responded with an explanation and all is cool after that. Schneiderman is an ok kinda guy, just doing some on the fly constructive criticism.

Thanks everyone for replying! And just for clarifying: I was meaning you are on two lanes and another bike comes by in 2nd lane. Not trying to pass in the same one. Would def. give them all the room I could, if that were to happen.
Which unless they are riding with me I don't think they should come all that close to me. 'Course i'm still new and not all that comfy with being side by side to many people.
Back to the point tho.
I definately always do my own thing, what ever feels comfortable you know.
I typically will toss the hand down if they are on my left. If they are on my right I have nodded, raised the right fingers (all of them, not one ) while keeping the palm on the throttle, and still w/ the left hand just raised to bout shoulder height.
