Hey all. I can’t stand it when I am trying to top off my gas tank and gas just ends up spilling everywhere. Does anyone know of a good solution for this? How do I fill up my tank with out making a huge mess?

How are you holding the nozzle? Are you holding it up a bit out of the gas tank opening so you can view it filling your tank as you slowly and steadily are squeazing the nozzle trigger, controlling the flow of gasoline and stopping as the fuel reaches the top of your tank or are you sticking the whole nozzle in the tank where you cannot see how much fuel is in your tank and just squeezing the nozzle trigger all the way until it overflows?
Also, I hope you aren't expecting the auto shut-off on a gas pump to work on your motorcycle gas tank.

the auto shut offs work for me, i just hold the tip of the nozzle just inside my tank, but i also stop when it hits too so im not fully depending on the auto stop. I also dont try to fill it to the brim, alot of pumps here dont have good controll meaning a little squeeze is full blast.

The spill and clean up isnt worth the 6 miles youll get from squeezing half an ounce of extra gas in the tank, just stop pumping before it gets close to sloshing over. And always wipe up a spill, gas can strip the paint right off the bike.

yeah what i was told by my uncles is you hold and slowly fill the tank but you always keep a paper towel in one hand and when you pull the nossle out of the gas tank out that towel under it so you dont drip gas on the bike

Not to mention that filling it all the way on a hot day and then parking it in the sun will result in a really nasty overflow all over your tank while you're not there.

The instruction on my C90T tells me to put the nozzle down on the crossbar at the mouth of the filler tube so the automatic shutoff will work. And so far, it does. I've slopped mine over sometimes, trying to do it my way. The thing I hate about my bike is that when it does slop over, they way the filler area is made, it drains right down on my hot engine. Not good!

TFee, mine's got the same thing but there is a drain hose that it runs down straight out the bottom, you missing something?? Of course, I've never had to use it! The only thing I have ever done is get that nasty drip into that spill over area but just a drip (allbeit, pretty good sized)so no drain necessary.

Yes, my advice, Watch what your doing, not the Blonde filling up beside you.

Geez, Edger, you want to take the fun out of gassing up!

I'll check to see if I just didn't see the drain hose. Thanks for telling me that.

OK OK, you can sneak peeks or even stare if you start early enough, but at the end, you gotta watch the tank. Will that help you out???
