I tried to look this up in the search but didn't find it.
I have a Mutt-Harley (some parts Harley-Davidson, some parts catalog). I got it from a guy who started building it in 1995 and I don't think he put on the right geared speedometer. When I'm doing 60 to 70 it's telling me that I'm doing 80 to 90. So I'm off about 20mph at that those speeds. Without counting gears and rotations is there a way to know what is the right geared Speedo? With only 3 choices I would think someone would know. 1:1, 2:1, or a 2240:60 Thanks for the help! |

I took a look at the speedo that is on there and it says it's a 2 to 1. So Now I'm left with 2 choices. Asuming it's not just a bad speedometer.

The speedometer gets it's information from the front wheel not the transmission. From what I have read so far that takes out the 1:1. So all thats left is the 2240:60 or a broken 2:1.
Anyone? Anyone at all? |

Hey Frosty,
Sorry I missed your thread but, I did get your msg. Hang with me, I'm in the middle of moving my shop from NY to FL so checking in here is a bit hit an miss right now. First things first. I need to know your front rim diameter. Second I need to know what type or brand of speedo gauge your cable is running too. .....and finally, what are you comparing your speed too? Another vehicle, measured mile against a clock...or..??? Capt. |

Front rim is a 16inch (I think, I'll check again when I get home to be sure)
Speedo brand... I don't know off the top of my head. sorry. I knew the speed was off by the way I was passed everywhere I go. But I also had my wife drive behind me and the speed was just about 20mph at all speeds. Thanks. I will try to get everything you need nailed down. The back tire went flat again (&*^$#@!!!), so I don't know when I'll be able to check exactly how much the speedo is off at what speeds again. |
