Ok, I'm at the point where I want to buy a new BMW R1200R.... my biggest concern is do I want to wait for the 2013's and see if this new water head comes out? or do I go with a known quantity and get a 2012?
The one I want is a Classic which my dealer doesn't have, so I don't even know if I can order one now, or is it too late and I'd have to wait for a 13 anyway... anyone have any info that might help me make my mind up? Also, what are the chances that the dealer would be willing to work with me on the price? how flexible are they on pricing with these? 5% off realistic? |

I haven't heard if a water-cooled R1200R will be available for next year's model. BMW is still keeping that under wraps as far as I know.
The R1250GS has been announced with the new water-cooled engine. The price will likely be higher on the newer model than a current-year model. I'm really not sure how flexible they are on the price. As with any other dealer, always negotiate with an out-the-door price including all fees and taxes to avoid getting caught in the trap of "Wow, I got a 25% discount only to be soaked with 30% in add-on charges by the time I got it out the door". Just because your local dealership doesn't have the model in stock doesn't mean they can't get one from another dealership. Transfer of dealer stock is part of the delivery charge that every buyer pays when they buy a new vehicle. Some dealers might be lazy and find it's not worth their trouble, but others will work pretty hard to find what you are looking for. It doesn't hurt to talk to them. If their customer service is lacking, it may be worth calling or emailing other dealerships to start up a conversation about purchasing.

thanks, that's good advise Dodsfall.. my dealer is telling me that I'd have to pay extra to get it transferred from another dealer, which I'm not too happy to do.. If anything I want to get one with a sticker price of $16K or so, and get $500-750 off... I'm thinking of doing the BMW 3asy financing plan and I am good at looking at the details of the contract so they can't suck me into any extra fees.
