Default A verrrrry close call

We have a main state highway that has a reputation for danger. So I need to make it to town before the utility office closes to avoid a late fee.
I was all alone with no cars close, and there was a line of cars coming toward me. Suddenly, there were two cars abreast, and I had to try to get right to keep from getting made into hamburger.
I just leaned the bike over, but i could tell it was not counter steering. I kept my eyes off the car that was gonna splatter me,because i knew that I had to not fixate on the wrong target.
I did not see how close he came, but I could feel that it was inches. I am fairly certain that both cars tried to give me more room. I had so much adrenaline in me that I got sick.
Lessons learned is that with no cars around you, this is what could happen,Kicking myself because the passing car was not noticed by me nearly soon enough, and possibly riding closer to the edge of the highway.
I think that i will just avoid this road and take the longer way to town the next time...

If you would have looked into the windshield, odds are that the driver would have had a cellphone up to their ear. People don't pay attention sometimes.

Many years ago I had a similar thing happen to me. I was in a car at the time though. I took the ditch and the car that ran me off the road hit the semi that was right behind me. Glad that you are ok. thing like that can definitely put a scare in you.

Glad you're here to tell us about it! Putting into practice what you have learned about not fixating saved your bacon.

What do you mean, by "I could tell it was not counter steering"?

Cheers,

Mike

By not counter steering, I meant that it just wanted to stay straight. I really am not a very skilled rider. When I am able to get loose and comfortable,I can get the bike to dig in. This was not one of those times.
So Mike,do you have your new project bike???

Right now I still have the CB350 (running great!) and my new (2011) T100 Bonnie. Sold the Virgin Whore (Savage) in a blink of an eye, which paid for a luggage rack for the Bonnie. (The Savage was too small ergonomically for me anyway for any extended riding.) Don't think my wife will let me populate the garage just yet with another bike. When I got the Bonnie, my daughter said, "Gee, Daddy now has three bikes! That's enough bikes!"

Taking the CB up to Maggie Valley again in May, riding along with Chefonahonda, for another Motorcycle Kickstart Classic ride in May. Can't wait!

Cheers,

Mike
