Hello from Wheeling. Some advice --> Get good gear to protect from a slide. Get a good high viz white or silver helmet and bright colored jacket. Take a motorcycle safety course. Then think about what kind of bike you want to get. For just riding around town in the Chicage suburbs in 45 MPH zones or less a Honda SH150i was the best bike for me. Not quite big enough for extended highway rides, but fast enough for getting around the burbs. Topped out at around 55-60MPH, and the best part was the gas mileage of around 65MPG. I now pay about 10 dollars a week in gas compared to 40 dollars+ when all I had was my car.
