Hi All,
I am up here in Maggie Valley, NC, camped out in front of the Wheels Through Time Museum. That was a 680 mile one day ride (me longest so far) on the CB350, aka Old Faithful. I am sore but I made it. We leave in the morning for Barbers, with a stop in Rome, GA, for the night at Pan Head City. Looks like a good crop of vintage bikes in for the ride. Much variety. There are old, old Harleys, a few UJMs, some British bikes, and even a MZ. Ought to be a fun ride and the Cherohala is on the route tomorrow. Hope to see some of you at the Barber Vintage Festival! Cheers, Mike

Probably Saturday as we will not arrive until midday Friday. Give me a call when you plan to come up. Today I spent the day on the Cherohala and am now in Rome, GA, at Panhead City.
Old Faithfull pulled through for me today, with only one glitch--a blown fuse just outside Maggie Valley, but I had a spare and got back on the road quickly. Cheers, Mike

Hondaman,
I am stationed at H-E-L USA's booth at the swapmeet; Row F, Number 36 (I think). Yeah, Murph, you missed areally great ride. Everyone knew what they were doing, the route was great, and well over fifty bikes. I think our column stretched at least a half mile. I have your books on the table here, Crash. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. Cheers, Mike

Hey, Hondaman! What happened to you? Did you make it to Barbers? I never got a call. Great day again with the Race of the Century for bikes 100 years old or older and some cross country racing.
Cheers, Mike

LakeWalesRider... really wanted to make the Barber Motor Sports event this weekend, but previous engagements took precedence. But thanks for the hot-tip on PanHead City.
Checked out their website, and am thinking of hitting their rally in a couple of weeks... then up to the Dragon's Tail (first time) before winter sets in. Stop off and see my brother North of Atlanta while I'm in the area. Man... I'd have loved to just see a couple of 100 yr old bikes, let alone see them race. |

I got home yesterday about 5:30pm. Holy crap; there was some crappy weather in north Florida. Blowing and torrential downpours yesterday. I kept thinking my bike was stalling, so I stuck my head down below the windscreen to listen to the motor and it was humming as good as ever; it was the wind gusts hitting so hard my speed would drop instantly 5 mph. It was that way the day before from Barbers to Valdosta, but the rain was light.
All in all a very good trip. I had meant to do some riding in the Leeds area, but there is so much to do and see at the festival I never got away. We did ride out by way of the "Mini Tail of the Dragon" (aka AL25). It has a very tight hairpin and I polished the tip of the kickstand taking that turn. Never have done that before; must have been the load of all the baggage on the back. The ride from Maggie Valley was great and all the riders seemed very experienced and it was an easy group, in spite of its size, to ride in. 1,717 miles. $88 for fuel (5 cents a mile). I used Startron and my mileage went from an average of 54 to mid-60s with a top of 66 mpg. Longest day was 681 miles/17 hours 40 minutes. The only bike problem I had was a blown main fuse, for which I carry a spare, so I was back on the road in just a few minutes. Cheers, Mike
