Default Airhawk 2 seat cushion

I'm sure this has been on some other thread, but I'm looking for a solution to burning butt issues on long rides. Right now I am using a sheepskin pad on the stock Triumph America seat but that isn't doing a good job of keeping me comfortable. One option which sounds really good is the Airhawk 2 cushion. Anybody have one and what do you think about it?

My fiancee's dad uses one on his Harley, they do several long rides including one this weekend to Michigan. He seems to like it.

I have friends that swear by them. I've tried them out a couple of times and wasn't really impressed.

I had an original Airhawk on my Kawasaki that worked really well. (it didn't fit well on my Harley). I have never used the "2" version so I can not comment on that one.

Another option is to have your seat foam reworked. Check out www.meancitycycles.com; they do a great job of customizing your existing seat for more comfort and they can alter your riding position. Well worth the money. They have done two of my Harley seats,

I do know the Airhawk 2 uses some sort of rubber-foam insert, and is a bit cheaper then the original Airhawk. I have never used either one, nor will I. But I have heard many people comment possitively about both.

I am SO GLAD you all started this thread. I too have this problem and am looking for a solution!

Is the airhawk the best solution out there? Before I shell over the $90 that it's listed for, I would like to know if its actually worth it!

Here is what I found out about it on Youtube

Guy's this is a real issue with me, and the Monkeybutt powder seems to work only for sweating. For a raw or sore butt (which I suffer from after riding 80 miles or more), I really need something that will help me with this.

I am really tempted to buy this Airhawk 2, but I really need your opinions first.

If I buy it, will it be actually work...and will it be worth the money?

As I stated in another post; I had a regular Airhawk and it was great. If you want a testimonial based on first hand experience I can tell you it will solve your problem. The only real issue with the Airhawk is that its a cushion that sits on your bike; so it changes your riding position a bit. Also as I mentioned above; I had Mean City Cycles redo my stock seat and it took care of the issue and I didn't have to have a seat cushion on my bike. MCC also redid the seat on my buddies Kawasaki and my brothers BMW; all were happy with the results. Before I spent the money on an Airhawk I would call them; check them out at www.meancitycycles.com. Basically you mail your seat to them and they fix it and send it back. Not expensive and they do great work.

I just called these guys and they stated for a 96 virago they were asking $175 (which isnt too bad), but I think shipping is going to make this far worse pricewise.

I still may end up doing anyway

Shipping from Vegas on a Harley Ultra Classic seat (huge) to them was about $30 each way.

$175 sounds like a lot; even the double decker memory foam is listed on their site at $140 and the regular memory foam would probably do it easily unless you're really heavy. I did the regular upgrade for $100 and it's been fine. Besides the better foam the big reason that MCC works is that they reshape the seat for a better fit.

Seeing that I don't want to spend a lot of down time waiting for the seat to reach them through shipping, then wait for them to get to it and do the work, then wait again for it to come back, I think I'm gonna go on and buy the Airhawk 2 for now, then send the seat in for re-coushioning after riding season is over.

For the past few weeks, the weather here hasn't been too co-operative with riders and I don't want to waste anymore time than I have to.

Thanks for the imput

Well... I picked it up from UPS today, and tried it out....

VERDICT: (Not too bad)

I was sorta shocked when I saw that you have to blow air into it with your mouth, but once I got it strapped on it didnt feel too bad. I will admit that it makes me sit a little higher than what I'm used to, but so far it feels rather comfortable.

The REAL test will come this weekend when I have time for a much longer ride.

To Starguard: I'm looking forward to your impression after your riding weekend. The sheepskin cover I am using just isn't doing the job, and like you, I don't want to miss half the summer riding season waiting for a remade seat.

You don't need to wait until he gets back to you; I had one and it works well.

I bought an Airhawk and a beaded seat. I wanted something to help with tailbone area and neither one is for that really. Did a 12 hour ride Thurs and Sun with riding thru mountains in between with the beaded seat. Tailbone hurt but everything else was fine.

I see on e-bay where their $82 buts thats for Mediums. All the Large's are more than $132. Is it worth it at that cost? Ya, if it works, it is.

No, just the beaded seat this last trip. Never used with each other. I've been on a 4-5 hour ride with the airhawk, again tailbone issues but was ok other wise.

Gotcha; that's odd. I have a tailbone issue as well but he Airhawk took care of it. If I were you I'd replace the seat with; talk to either Corbin or Mustang and see what they say. If you're anywhere near Corbin in Hollister, CA they will customize you a seat while you wait.

I think I bruised it and having a hard time getting it to heal up. I ride a lot and sit at work, have a tendency to lean back and I should be sitting forward a bit more.
http://www.ironpony.com/ironponydire...EET%20PRODUCTS
Ordered this and hope it helps. If not, back to the drawing board. I had the seat redone by Spencer great day to ride. He does good work. Even tho the back is recessed in the cushion itself the material is still stretched out across it. I dunno, I'm trying everything I can think of

That looks like it may work; A buddy of mine picked one up like it at the River Run this spring.

As far as your tail bone; I had the same issue. I had to (and still do) really watch how I am sitting on my chair at work. I purchased a Steel Case Think Chair (not cheap, but really comfortable) and I pay extra attention to how often I lean back on my tailbone. I don't have the problem too often now but I watch it close and I am very careful how I sit.

I did a search on Google and found a company that had a close out load of them in Blue with most of the options like adjustable arms and mesh back; it still cost me $500 but I sit all day. (www.nbf.com). Having to do it over again I would check the used office furniture outlets; I was able to buy 15 of a different model Steel Case chair for the rest of my office for $129 each and they still carry the lifetime Steel Case warranty. Great chair and will take care of your tail bone issue. If you look around you can find used Think Chair or Herman Miller Aeron.

It definitely made a difference for me. I quickly realized when I first used it that I put too much air in it. That made me sit too high and threw me off balance. After releasing the valve stem a little and found that "sweet spot", everything from there was fine.

Definitely worth the money

Try out some riding underwear. I've heard that is as big a factor as the seat.
