I made an appointment for my initial service today. I was surprised when he said the valve clearance won't be needed til 16K miles. I don't have my manual right now but I'm sure it said valve clearance at the initial service then again at 4K miles. Its running great. Got 45 mpg on my last tank full. All in town riding. I was only getting around 38 so I stopped downshifting so much and it shot up. Do you have any concerns or does all sound ok?

Not to hijack your thread but how do you like your 1300? I am looking at some leftover 2009's...

I was told the same thing with my 650 last year. I purchased my '05 last summer with 246 miles. I took it into my local dealership to have every fluid changed, every item greased, and all recall work done. I'm guessing there was some sort of service bulletin.
I'm planning on adjusting the valves myself at 8k. |

Ya, I got a 2009 on 4/9. I like the bike. I am a new rider and this is my 1st. I'm 6'1" 215 lbs and glad I went w/ the 1300. It's not overpowering but has lots of top end. It hates to be under reved. Gears shifts to 2nd at 20 mph, 3rd at 30 and 4th at 40. 5th is geared at .97 overdrive but I've hardly used it w/ just in town riding. The only complaint is the clunk u get from the front when going over a larger hole than usual. It is from the front forks and are a few fixes including progressive springs. As a new rider I can live w/ it for a while. I think it offers a decent rumble w/ a little more twist of the throttle than normal/average for a bike out of the crate.
