Default My new bike

Hey guys!

Finally picked up my first motorcycle! It's a black Honda Shadow vt1100c. She's stock except for the pipes and according to the title she was born green. I'll post pictures later.

where do ya'll buy your parts? I want lower profile drag style handle bars, she needs new front turn signals, a new signal switch, new headlight mounting stuff (rusted). any and all ideas welcomed. Thanks!

For stock parts, the Honda dealer will be able to get replacements easily enough.

There are a ton of online options for aftermarket parts, with varying prices and qualities.

What year is it? As far as parts go most online retailers will have parts for your bike as it is a popular model. Get us some before pictures, we will all want to see what you started with.

I usually go to a trusted retailer here in town. I'm not aware of many online shops that have great prices, but I'm sure they exist.

You're gonna get a lot of backfiring with those pipes, either due to a lean fuel/air mixture (assuming the carbs haven't been adjusted) or the fact that there are no baffles. When does it backfire the most?

Primalmu,

it backfires most when I'm coming off the throttle or downshifting approaching a stop. Baffles are in it. They're the 10" or 12" (guys and length measurements...) black slotted things that fit in the pipes with a screw. Anyway, it rarely does it on the accelerate part. I'm planning on jetting the carbs after I add a K&N air filter to it. I have them in my other vehicles and I like their concept, maintenance requirements (very little). Anyway, thanks.

JBorg, at least I picked up most of the woodchips from the lathe. Coulda had a million hampsters in the garage before I cleaned it out.

Congrats and nice bike ... jealous of the garage, too!

I like CruiserCustomizing.com b/c riders actually make reviews and recommendations for most parts. I'm sure other places do, too - but that's just who I've bought from the most. Good customer service and return policy.

Cie,

Ordered drag bars and grips from them yesterday. I agree, rider reviews are very helpful. Steered me away from a couple of otherwise good looking deals.

I get most parts from Tucker Rocky or Parts Unlimited. Both are catalogues you look through at retail stores (no on-line orders). Most shops carry them- including dealerships.
Tucker Rocky carries BikeMaster bars for around $23 (and no shipping)

Gun battles at the OK corall when decelerating usually means an air leak somewhere. As your pipes are after-market, I'd start the look where the pipes go in the header -look for black stuff being forced out along the seam.

Could be running lean, though too. Bigger jets.

Interesting...took the pipes off the other day to touch the finish up. There aren't any exhaust gaskets on them, just pipe to manifold....could probably stand to put some in. We'll see. LIke I said, plan to rejet it when I get the parts (this week) and time (who knows when). Thanks guys.

I'm sure the gaskets are there but it's hard to tell unless you look really close. They should be kinda copper colored and they are a one use item as they are crush gaskets. You need to gently pry them out, a dentist pick would help. You need to replace them every time you pull your pipes.
My Aero was popping really bad and new gaskets along with a couple other mods and now no popping at all.

Hey Mtn,

You mind telling me what other mods you did to fix the popping? Thanks man.

I closed off the pair valves and opened up the airbox a little(desnorkle)
I figured since most of my riding is at at least 6k ft. It was running a little rich.
But the new gaskets are what really quieted her down.

Looks like a good purchase. Did you get bags with it? It looks like there are gaurds for them on the rear.

Thanks. Bags did not come with it. Those are
Guards. Got it jetted and running great. Trying to find some handlebars for it. the first set I bought are too flat. Make the reach similar to a sport bike.... Need a happy medium... We'll see
