Default 2-up on a virago 1100?

Howdy Folks,

I found a 1990 Virago 1100 for sale within my price range with 38,000 miles on it. I am a little leary of the mileage but I plan to have my mechanic take a look at it. My main question is, does anyone on this forum have experience ridding longish distance (400+) two up with gear? How comfortable is it for the passanger? Is there anything on this year and model that I should be aware of and look for when looking at the bike?

Thanks for your help.

Jim

Well, ...My wife rides an 1100 Virago. Used to by my bike. They will haul around 2 people,(it's a strong engine) but the passenger's Butt will suffer going 400 miles. and where are you planning to put gear? Unless you construct some hillbilly homemade luggage rack or something, the stock luggage rack is, like, 4 in. long.
They are a little cramped for 2 up, IMHO, but I've seen it done.
Good luck.
Get the starter up grade (if the previous owner hasn't done it)
Originals are notoriously weak.

Thanks greyboyfan,

My wife thinks they look too small for what we are looking for as well and too light. Even though I will be primarily transporting our daughter to and from school with an occasional trip to NM, when considering the cross winds one can find in CO and NM, especially along the I-25 corridor, I believe I'll pass. I have been looking at a 98 kawasaki vulcan with only 11K miles, the only thing extra it would need is a luggage rack. If the bank comes through and it's not sold, I plan on picking it up.

Thanks again for the reply.

Jim
