Default Thinking about selling...

So, I'm thinking about selling my bike. Vet school and this Mississippi weather is really putting a damper on my ability to ride. I haven't ridden in about a month and a half, and realistically I'm probably not going to be able to ride much for the next 3 months since I've got my food animal and equine medicine rotations coming up. Once those are over I'm heading back to WV for 2 months and won't be back in Mississippi until January. That makes riding questionable for at least the next 6 months, and that doesn't even factor in the fact that I'll be busy all of my 4th year. Right now my bike is just sitting gathering cobwebs and dust under my carport. It pains me to say this, but I think owning a motorcycle right now just doesn't make much sense. I love my bike and I love riding, but I had to see a bike rot while I can't ride it.

That makes a lot of sense P, sometimes other things in your life have to take priority...and if you sell it ...it could bring joy to someone else instead of just sitting in your carport. Later on after you are all finished with your education, you can buy another one and start the excitement of riding all over again!

Wish you luck with your education, that is some serious work!

You will not lose your love/lust for riding. After schooling is over you'll
be in a better position to ride whatever you like. Kudos for an animal
care career choice!

I agree with Raven. Some person out there is probably actively looking for an awesome Bandit (assuming that is still your bike) that has been taken care of and looking for a new home. After your all done with school and get settled down as a Vet somewhere, you will be able to go an pick whatever you want and start riding again.

I did the same thing going into the military and I'm a newbie again after waiting 20 years to ride again.

Yea, and as much as I love the bike, it would be nice to have something more suitable for carrying a passenger in the future. The Bandit has the power, just not the comfort.

Well, maybe when your done with everything, you'll be in a much better position to not only ride, but get something that will be better suited for 2up riding, that or have two bikes. One for solo fun, like the Bandit, and maybe a bigger Vulcan or VTX for 2up.

It's not that complicated to put one in storage mode. Unless you need the money, store it and it will be awaiting you when the mood returns.

Oh, I've stored plenty of bikes. Its easy enough to do. The money would be nice, though, since I'm living off student loans.

I've gone thru similar situations twice in my life & sold my bikes both times. I don't regret selling the bikes at all. I got back into bikes a few years ago & bought another one. Don't feel bad, just seel it & in a few years you'll be buying another. In the mean time you won't have to worry about storage, paying insurance etc.

Well, we'll see how easy it is to sell. Might have to wait for cooler weather... haven't seen as many bikers out as usual with the summer we've been having.

Are you no longer going to need transportation during this time? Because if you are going to be driving a car you very well could be riding a bike. Just sayin. Sounds like you need the funds more than the bike. Nothing wrong with that, of course.

I need transportation, yes, but I've got a truck. At school I have to wear professional dress, and right now its been so hot even in the mornings that I'd be sweaty and nasty by the time I got to school. Not very good when meeting clients...

You do what you have to do. Bikes are replaceable, a good education is not. Many of us on this forum could tell a similar story, or how when babies came along there was irresistable pressure to put riding aside for the moment. Once your life gives you more time to enjoy personal pursuits, you can buy another bike and rejoin the fraternity of riders. Good luck.

I don't think dogs and cats judge you as much as you might think. My dog actually likes it when I am sweaty. It's like a treat for him.

I worked for IBM for thirty years and rode a bike the last 15. You don't get any more uptight gotta have white shirt, tie and suit than IBM. It can be done. I wore a suit every single day of that last 15 years. If you want to you can do it.

How far are you into your schooling? My son recently graduated from Bel-Rea and got his CVT, he is now working as a surgical nurse for a specialty animal hospital in FL.
Maybe someday he will be assisting you?

He always got to wear scrubs to class, I don't think he would save survived wearing professional dress LOL.

Where did you work for them at? My husband used to work at the Boulder campus, he wrote trouble tickets for the onsite service guys.

I think you should store your bike in New Orleans, find a person who could ride it for you so it doesn't just sit and the carbs get gummed up or anything Just think tho, pretty soon all this will be behind you and you can get another
