I hope the AMA or some other organization gets a hold of this case, runs with it, and sues that officer and the Maryland State PD for all they're worth.
On the scene, I saw no problem with the officer's actions. Maybe I missed something. The rider had OBVIOUSLY broken the law with numerous violations. In my area, it is routine procedure for a police officer to approach a car with their hand on their weapon. My guess is when he started to back up, the weapon was drawn. I don't see a problem with the weapon really being drawn.
My only problem is the search the next day. That's excessive for a moving violation unless there was more to the story than we are told. (a very good chance)
He didn't start to back up until AFTER some crazy person WITH A GUN IN HAND, came out of the car.
If I was the rider, and had NOT seen a marked car behind me, I would have popped the clutch and ran the bastid over ASAP!
