I'm Russ. I'm on a billion other forums, why not one more. I've got 3 suzukis: 77 GS400 and GT185 and a 90 VX800.
The GS was my first bike, dude backed out of a parking spot without looking, too close for me to avoid... luckily it was parking lot speeds so the bike needs a lot of little stuff and I had an arm in a sling and a few small scabs for a while. The GT was going to be my wifes bike till she took the MSF beginner course and realized she didn't have the burning urge to ride like some of us do. Fine by me, she's a 'conservative' driver...and bad enough with 4 wheels so now it's a slow restoration and me put around town bike. I'm actually hoping to track down some 2-stroke troubleshooting tips-tricks since it's got a few little foibles yet...I'm thinking the crank seals are leaking: trouble starting and down on power. carbs are clean, pipes are clear, compressions decent, newish ignition, points set, only 1400 miles. The VX is my replacement for the GS. It's big, heavy, and doesn't make a huge amount of peak power. The good side is it's well balanced/low CG, and has a fat torque curve that I like a lot: I can cruise around in 5th at 30 mph at 1500 rpm or get 50+ mpg having fun at 75. |
