Tomos motorcycles Slovenian made

That's it! I was looking into getting a Tomos motorcycle when I learned - Oh Horror! - that they are no longer all Slovenian made. Some of the parts are outsourced from - Oh the Shame of it! - BMW!! What's the world coming to, I ask you?! I'm never buying a Tomos again. All I can do now is go nurse my wounded patriotic pride in a glass of fruit tea and slivovic.

Get rid of the pedals, and give it a kickstart, and I would actually consider getting one for fun!

Yea , with me, get rid of everything but the comfortable seat and would buy it if was drunk

holly cow it looks like the 50cc scoot has a crash bar?? and do we really need disk brakes on a peddle bike

actually the more I look at it kind of does look like a fun bike, so ugly it's cute.

It wouldn't be much use in a typical North American city, but here in Europe, with narrow, winding medieval streets and very little space for parking, they are very useful. I often see very old people riding them home from the market with a little basket on the front full of groceries.

are there alot of scooter or motorcycle accidents there?

There are a lot of accidents involving all kinds of vehicles. This is a very macho culture, which involves speeding, cutting people off, refusing to yield the right-of-way, etc. No male driver in the Balkans would dream of stopping for pedestrians at a crosswalk. In September there is a policeman posted at every crosswalk to make drivers stop for schoolchildren. Drive along any road in the area and you will see little shrines with burning candles dotted along the side of the road to commemorate traffic fatalities.

Most of the Slovenes, Croats, Montenegrins and Serbs I've met have been kind, gentle, and hospitable, but put one behind the wheel of a car (or handlebars of a bike) and Dr. Jekyll turns into Mr. Hyde.

are they charged with hitting or killing, how is the insurance there?

Insurance is a bit cheaper than it is in, say, Toronto, where I'm originally from. I pay about 300 euros a year for my car. I was paying 200 a year for my Moto Guzzi, and the Harley would be the same, if not for the dratted theft insurance.

Penalties for driving infractions are very steep, if you ever get caught. The problem is, there is very little police presence on the roads, so there is little chance of getting caught. For example, if you drive 30km/hr over the limit, you can get a fine of 1000 euros and lose your licence (I'm not sure how long), but I only occasionally see a radar trap at the side of the road, and never on the highway, so people routinely drive 50 or 60 km/hr over the limit.
