Default front wheel bearings

i bought a kit for new wheel bearings and i got a wheel bearing puller also. Only problem is, never replaces bearings myself before. doesnt seem that hard. I just have one question I pose. i have a 1983 honda shadow vt500c and the front wheel i need to take off. It has the bolt on the right side. I obviously need to take that off but i dont konw what size that is. I used an adjustable wrench and it started to damage it so I stopped.
the biggest wrench i have is 17mm so it has to be even bigger than that. Does anyone know what size it actually is?

I'm not sure of the size.

Having a dial caliper has saved me a lot of guesswork in the past. You can convert from decimal inches to metric pretty easily using Google.

If the motorcycle is mobile, a parts store might let you try a couple sizes in the parking lot to get one that fits.

If you don't have a dial calipers you can use your adjustable wrench, that should get you a close enough measurement to buy the proper size wrench or socket. Set your adjustable wrench to the size of the bolt then measure the space between the jaws.

thanks for both of the suggestions. I actually just guessed and kept trying. What it turned out to be is 11/16th size which is weird because everything else is in MM. Now the problem is trying to get it off.... i can't get it to budge any suggestions?
