Default Now that we are married...

This ever happen to you with a car or bike or perhaps a wife?

When you get her home, you start noticing things you did not see before you got married.

My current bike is a Honda 919. Bought it used. When I first looked at her I did notice a couple of scratches and scrapes, so I knew the bike had been dropped, but that didn't bother me cause I was getting a pretty good deal, and she sure was pretty.

Now that I have been married to the bike for a while, I am noticing more warts. This bike was more than dropped, I think it was crashed. And I think it was run pretty hard because at only 13k miles I need new front brake pads.

It seems to run OK. But it sure would have been nice to have noticed some of those things before I got married.

This kinda bugs me because I am a pretty cautious guy, and I *thought* I looked her over really well.

Oh well, I have to live with her, so I need to make the best of it.

This goes for both the bike and the wife.

Ralph

actually ... you can get a divorce from the wife.
but the bike is HERE to stay !
Hahahahaha!

If you think the bike has really been crashed, a couple of quick suggestions based on the hard experience of others.

1. Look over the front forks, from the location of the wheel axle all the way up. Inspect very carefully for any signs of bending, and any hairline cracks. It's very important to make sure no cracks are there.

2. Likewise, check the underside of the frame very carefully for any small cracks.

3. Inspect the spokes and rims of the wheels carefully for cracks too.

Sometimes bikes are not crashed, but dropped from a significant height. It can happen if a previous owner was using a ramp to load it into a truck, but the bike fell off the ramp. So a careful check for cracks is pretty important.

good luck ralph.
and hopefully if anyone dropped your wife -
she would tell you about it :-)

That is why you don't get married....been with mine for almost 30K and it still surprises me, both good and bad.....but most of the time I can fix the bad and keep on going.......

Not sure about getting married ...but my GF has learned about many of my crashes and she still enjoys the ride ...metaphorically speaking, of course.

Good analogy Ralph. Wives really are a bit like bikes, eh?

I mean, you'd never swing your leg over a friend's bike without asking, right? Same with the wife.

Of course, a bike won't get upset if you come home and announce you're going to keep another bike in the garage...

I'm not so sure about that...every time I get a new bike my car has a rash of expensive malfunctions. I think it gets jealous ;p

And to the op, front pads after 13k doesn't sound too abnormal to me (correct me guys if I'm wrong) but I just bought a bike for my gf with 14,000 on the clock and it seems to have been pretty gently used, but by the end of this season I suspect it'll need new pads. Probably just means a lot of city miles. I live in the city myself at the moment and I think I spend more time on the brakes than the throttle until I get to the interstate.

EDIT: Oh, and make sure your bike doesn't quit going to the gym and start gaining lots of weight. I've heard that happens

That's what happens when you allow those intermodal type relationships Gandalf. Bikes with bikes and cars with cars, the way God intended it.

(I'm jokingggggggggg........)

Probably the most important lesson have learned from this is to have somebody look her over with me and ride her before I make the commitment. It's just too easy to get caught up in the moment and just focus on looks.

I am talking about a bike, of course, not a wife.

I think I am talking about a bike. I am confused now.

I think its human nature to want something so badly that you overlook the imperfections. Its like going to bed with a "10" and waking up with a "2". I think it has happened to us all.
