BMW announced a new liter motorcycle as a companion to the popular S1000RR. The HP4 is the latest incarnation of the German superbike.
The HP4 shares the same basic engine with the now-famous S1000RR, but has increased torque in the mid range without losing any horsepower. At 439 pounds, (Edit- Cycle World is reporting 373 pounds dry) it weights significantly less than the S1000RR as well thanks to new forged wheels and a lightweight titanium exhaust system. That makes it the lightest 1000 cc supersport in production. Another innovation included with the HP4 is the Dynamic Dampening Control also known as the DDC. BMW says, “The damping is adapted to the current maneuver or road surface by means of sensor-supplied parameters via electrically controlled regulation valves. In this way, the HP4 offers optimum damping in every situation, handling long and short shocks virtually perfectly so as to provide maximum traction and safety.” The HP4 also has ABS, electronic traction control, adapted wheelie detection, assisted shifting, and Brembo brakes. Pricing and availability has not yet been announced for the HP4. Riders who are interested in owning one should likely get their names on a waiting list now. [Motorcycle Daily]
