I just bought a 2009 Hyosung Comet GT R. In the last 2.5 years the previous owner only put 18km on it. Yes, that is 18km. He basically kept it in his storage. He sold or traded it to a dealer, and that's where I bought it from. I rode it today for about an hour and then all of a sudden the red FI light came on and the engine felt weak and it was sputtering a bit. When I would get to low speeds (less than 20km/hr or so) it would feel very weak. Also, it has been dying in neutral or when I am coming to a stop it will die when I'm not supplying the bike with revs. When I turn the bike off and let it rest for a few minutes it seems to go away. But then it returns after I've ridden for about 10 minutes or so.
I don't know anything about the mechanical side of bikes. Could it be some issue related to not being ridden in 2.5 years. Such as the battery or something? I appreciate the responses. |

It's most likely a fuel delivery issue.
It's possible that the fuel system needs to be cleaned from old gas turning to varnish in the injection system, or that the fuel pump is giving out. The first thing (and cheapest) to try is to run some Seafoam through it and see if that clears it up. If you get no happiness there, you might have to test the fuel pump for pressure and/or manually clean out the fuel system. Another possibility is that there is something wrong with the computer system or a sensor. That can be tested by a dealership to see what error codes pop up.
