I am the new proud owner of a running 1965 Yamaha yg1-k. All the mechanical stuff works great, I just need to mess with the electronics to get the brake light going to pass my bike inspection at the CHP. Ive never ridden before and figure this is a good little practice ride to putt around town on until I get better at riding. What do you guys think? I dont have a MC license or permit yet so Ive got the time to work on it and cant wait to take it out.
I picked it up non running and after a couple hours of work she fired up and took 240 pounds of me close to 50mph on my street (tucked away in a residential with no people). I hear this was a very popular first bike for a lot of folks. I kinda like the current look especially since I threw on some side saddle bags but I plan on "de-militarizing" it and restoring it back to original. What do you guys think? ![]() ![]() This is what I think I want to do if I can find parts: ![]() |

Now that looks cool! I love old bikes, but don't know much about the metric ones, but that has a tres kewl look. And you got it running! Good on you!
(I'm sure some safety Nazi is going to comment on you holding a baby on a bike, but ef 'em. Save that pic for when that baby is 30 years old or so.) |

Wow I found a color manual on ebay as well as turn signals. Looks like I wont have too much trouble. Can anyone suggest a local shop that works on these things if I get too lost? I live in southern california about 5 minutes from magic mtn. Zip code 91384, its where the love ride ends.

That bike is sweet. I'd love to have one of those to cruise around on. Ride safe and remember the family you've got at home.

The very first time I had a ride on a motorcycle was as a passenger on the back of one just like that.

That's awesome! Now you just have to recreate the chase scene from Ah-Ha's "Take on me"!!
