I live in the LA area. The other morning, I was watching the morning news and traffic reports. As usual, traffic was heavy and there were some wrecks tying things up.
What was unusual, was that there were three motorcycle accidents in three different places! Sometimes I think we should give a bravery medal to anyone who survives a year of commuting on a motorcycle here in LA LA land. Ralph |

Now folks let's get along here
you don't want to cause trouble like me..Elwood P Dowd: Years ago, my mother used to say to me, she'd say "In this world, Elwood, you can be oh so so smart, or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart... I recommend pleasant. You may quote me. Last edited by sanford; 08-02-2012 at 08:28 PM.. |

No fighting here. Just some good old american cross country put downs.
We all know that Wild Bill is actually a California lover. He just wants people to think he is from Arkansas. He has an image to maintain. BTW, why can't Arkansas spell their own name right? Shouldn't it be Arkansaw? Silly hicks. ![]() |

I've mostly lived on both coasts, but spent about a year in Northwest Arkansas, and it was beautiful country, nice folks, and it reminded me a lot of Central PA.
Of course, y'all know what a girl from Arkansas says when she's done having sex? "Get off me Pa, you're crushin' my smokes" ![]() |

Ralph
yeah unfortunately guys are biting the dust on LA freeways and streets on a regular basis. It's not a game any more - given the driving habits and lack of focus that we typically see from LA cages. You're starting to see how I became so hard-a** about loud pipes. If they do even a little bit of good, and stop someone (or me) from eating the asphalt ... then that's a step forward. The accident rate in LA is why all the good riders I know are constantly evaluating their strategies every day. You have to ride to minimize risk. I avoid the freeways and streets during rush hour and slowdowns - basically any time that cages are stressed out. I'm not sure where all of this is going - except that it's getting progressively tougher to ride a bike in Los Angeles and keep the rubber side down. Riders need to come up with some new method for safeguarding their safety. Either that - or carry chrome-plated RPG launchers on their bikes. :-) dT |

I've always enjoyed LA when there on business. Its very easy to get downtime when there. But the overall uncertainty of the California finances and the predominant political culture are a little too much for me to consider living there. I'm sure its nirvanna for others more attuned to the local politics.

I was working in LA until a few weeks months ago. Was riding over 2,000 miles a month across LA freeways. I absolutely hated commuting on my bike there. Just started a new job up in Santa Barbara for a lot less money but my beautiful commute along the edge of the ocean everyday more than makes up for it.
I will say riding in LA definitely made me a better rider. In the last couple years riding there I've had to dodge ladders, tables, major car accidents directly in front of me, dogs in the freeway, cop chases, dead bodies and massive craters in the road. Sooooo glad I don't have to commute there anymore! |

There were 2 fatal motorcycle accidents on the same day in different areas here in my city... and it is about 1/20th of the size of yours. 3 does not seem like that many for a city of that size.
And you know what Jersey girls wear for ankle warmers? Their underwears.
