so I've been riding the bike to and from work every day this summer and a number of issues have cropped up.
1. bike seems to be lagging powerwise, mainly when I give the bike some gas I notice how sluggish it is, I'm told this is likely a combination the carbs being to lean and a dirty air filter. fairly straightforward fix. I'm no mechanic so I'm gonna take the bike to a shop to have the carb work done, if the carbs are bad I may just order rebuild kits and have the carbs rebuilt. 2. the rear suspension appears to be shot. I noticed this yesterday whe I sat ont he bike and it seemed stiff. bounced on the bike a few times and the rear shocks almost seem frozen, they didn't move a bit. so I'm assuming they need to be replaced. my plan is to have them replaced with these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/79-81-HONDA-...#ht_1055wt_907 also gonna go ahead and buy new springs to go with the new shocks. http://www.ebay.com/itm/79-81-HONDA-...r#ht_979wt_907 3. the throttle is stiff to twist, I've lubed the cables but it doesn't seem to take more than a week or 2 for the throttle to start getting stiff again. 4. the taillight sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. when it doesn't work turning the key off then back on usually gets it to work. no idea what the hell is up with that one. so. any input on any of this? It may be time to replace the throttle cables.
A light not working is usually a short or bad connection. If it uses a relay, that might also be going out. (I don't think tail lights use a relay, generally.)

My first bike was a CM400t, great dependable bike.
for the shocks did you contact the seller and ask? Did you try any of the bone yards? I bought off these guys years ago, not sure how they are these days. http://www.cyclesalvage.com/ Good luck with that bike. |
