Hi--
I just picked up three 1960s Yamahas from the same guy last week. He had about 10 others, too. They are a 1966 YGS-1, a 1966 YL-1, and a 1963 MJ2-T. They are all very complete, all currently run and ride decently, and are in very decent original condition. I plan to take them apart one at a time and properly restore and rebuild them. Are there any resources you guys can point me to that would help get me started? I bought a couple old Clymer guides for these bikes yesterday, but am waiting on them in the mail. Note that I am new to all of this. These will not only be my first attempts to rebuild/restore a bike, but are my first bikes in general. Does anybody know if they make reproduction tank knee pads for the YGS-1 and YL-1? Mine seem stiff and one has a small crack in it. Thanks, Nick |

nice score, try the "old bike barn.com", do a search on the yamaha vintage forums or just vintage forums in general. Also E bay is a great place to find parts. Enjoy you great find.

Thanks. I searched around on eBay and it looks like I should be able to find the few parts I may need with some persistent searching. The gas tank rubber knee pads for the YGS1 look to be a difficult item to find so far, though.
If I ever do get the restoration projects off the ground, I do intend to take a lot of before, after, and in progress pictures to post. |
