Default lock stearing, break light turns on.

I just bought my first bike its a 1989 honda cb-1. Im a little worried about it getting stolen. And here is y. When i try to lock my stearing/ handelbars the breaklight turns on and will drain my battery. There has been a mod to the bike. Handel bar warmers have been installed. Its def a wiring/ electrical problem. If anyone has any info or ideas id love to get a msg back. Thx a lot.

no idea really, any post you can chain a wheel..re light draining battery why not have a temporary on/off switch in series with a brake wire.. you could manually turn off when not riding.. but you could forget to switch on which is dangerous.. but likely would work until you solve the problem?

Make sure your key is in right position.

Inspect the wiring. You note "def a wiring/electrical" with the aftermarket modification to your bike. From here, kind of hard to say what it is.

wiring inside handlebars too tight?
when you pull the bars over to one side, it tightens the wires and triggers a loose connection. troubleshooting procedure would involve carefully tracing all the wiring for the brake lights - esp. the front brake -and check the connections. requires a fair amount of patience.

when u are frustrated by an MC wiring problem - always have a cold beer handy! hahaha!! it helps :-)

I know on my bike I have two postions on the ignition to lock, one to the right and one to the left, turn to the right to lock, lights come on, to the left no lights. Check that before you start tearing into wires.

my understanding of post was a steering wheel lock giving trouble not ignition?? does sound like a kinked wire, not sure it is shorted to frame since
a dead short trips a fuse...likely some wire's out of sync??

Meh, thought I would throw it out there. I hate to see people automaticly assume the worst and tear into stuff only to find it was an easy fix, or there was no problem at all.

Im with z9nine.....check it out closely.

What hes refering to is the PARK position. This is handlebars locked with the parking lights on. Alot of my vintage bikes had this.....

One way was PARK.....the other was just LOCK.

In fact one of the bikes that I know was setup this way was my 1976 Honda CB400F.....which strongly suggests yours may be similar.
