i got a steal on the bike, the last owner was family and i know it ran well. never the less the reason i got a steal was because there was a hole the size of a bb so i spent $300 and got the tank brazed and panted.... then was going to redcoat the tank(like the detailer told me) i should have done that first and was scared to mess up the tank so i paid $100 to get it done by a classic bike shop...... then i wait the 6 days to let it dry..... put the petcock on, hooked up fuel lines, turned the petcock to off, and put gas in the tank and it started to leak where it fastens.... the classic bike pro told me it leaked out of the fuel lines but not like that. i bought another petcock off ebay and still same problem. i have the shop manual and the only thing im missing is the filter and the o-ring for the filter. there is no other parts. did i over tighten it? if so is it ruined?
any advice is appreciated.... Thanks JT |

Did you use any type of thread sealer on it?
Permatex Form-a-Gasket number 3 (Aviation) works well. They also make teflon thread tape for gasoline applications. (It's the yellow-colored stuff.) If you tightened it down so much that you mangled the threads, odds are something is ruined. A close inspection of the threads can tell you if that's the case.

That's what I was thinking about the threads but my neighbor acted like the slightest tweak could ruin it..... But I knew to only snug it, not too tight.... And thank you
