They are interchangeable.

It seems that it's never mentioned that the democrats took over both houses of congress in 2006 and, as usual, pushed really hard for Bush to "compromise" with their spending plans and to raise the debt a huge amount. (Where I have heard that before?)

To Bush's discredit, he went along to get along against his party. It's also conveniently forgotten that Obama himself was one of those senators who voted for the same debt-creating, job-killing things that he now blames Bush for, as if he had nothing to do with it. When he mentions the "previous administration" he doesn't remind folks that he was actually part of it and supported those plans and policies wholeheartedly. (and continues to do so)

Ralph has no idea about politics I have realized. He is high on good feelings and hope.

Anyone that has any clue would not support either major party. They both have huge issues.

Hawkeye, there comes a point where even the fair and balanced (and not the Fox News brand of fair and balanced) must point out the bull****. http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinio...m_opinions_pop

We have been studying Washington politics and Congress for more than 40 years, and never have we seen them this dysfunctional. In our past writings, we have criticized both parties when we believed it was warranted. Today, however, we have no choice but to acknowledge that the core of the problem lies with the Republican Party.
I think the Democratic party has been worthless. But the GOP as a whole, and as an institution, has become extremely radical and undemocratic. The Democrats are just pussies, unable or unwilling to do anything about it. And the media, in the interest of being fair, refuses to call the GOP out on it or hold Democrats accountable for giving in at every opportunity.

Your last paragraph is exactly how the right feels about the left and the media if you switch the parties. The Washington post is democrat propaganda, has been for a long time.

Both Obama and Romney will be bad for the country. At least Romney losing will force the GOP to come up with someone better in 4 years. If he wins, we're screwed for the foreseeable future.

We need to make Congress and the President of the US into $40,000 a year jobs with regular benefits and such.

Then we wouldn't get as many scumbags running for this stuff.

Yeah, make it so that only the independently wealthy can afford to hold office.

As with any job, higher pay attracts higher quality of applicants.

I see it as paying the president $400K a year - for life - is a ton of money. Every scumbag will try for that just for the steady lifetime stream of income.

I guess I disagree more with congress getting a salary that last for their entire life rather than just while they hold office. Too many corrupt people in office. Now that I say that, less income may make them accept more bribes from unions and such (as if that is possible)

Also, it wasn't until the entire congress changed hands in 2007 and had a president willing to go along with (Compromise!) massive spending increases and regulations during his last 2 years in office that things started going badly.

It is not true that the president and congress members get their salaries for life. They do get a pension, which is pretty good, but it is not equal to their salaries.

Here is a good link for the correct info.
http://www.senate.gov/reference/comm..._members.shtml

Here is one that that discusses what a president gets after he (or she... Its going to happen!) leaves office. http://www.senate.gov/reference/reso...pdf/98-249.pdf

That is a little reassuring then. Guess the far right wing publications lie too. Who would have guessed!
