So I got a question, how does removing the AIS help with popping? That's the intake side and the popping is on the exhaust side... It don't make since to me.... Can someone explain how that works? Thanks

the AIS injects air into the exhaust, this is the main cause of the popping on deceleration.....when changing exhaust and air intake, the air fuel mixture changes, with a carbed bike you jet, with a FI bike you get a fuel management system.....I just installed a Cobra Fi2000 Power Pro w/ CVT on mine, and the air box mod is next

I was under the impression that popping denoted an exhaust leak and backfiring a lean condition that is fixed with a fuel processor.

Suzuki has the P.A.I.R. valve, Yamaha has the AIS, I'm sure Honda has something like it also....it injects air into the exhaust to help with emissions, to help burn off un-burned fuel in the pipes, that's why the bikes pop on decl so bad after changing out the stock exhaust....the stock exhaust is "tuned" for it (it also helps keep the catalytic convertors in the mufflers on later model bikes from getting too hot, so don't take it off if you still have the stock pipes)

So it must force the air in the between the valves and exhaust manifold? Mine don't pop that I know of or can remember... Lol which air intake u gonna go with? I just replaced mine with a K&N but like the one that the guy with the white bike has posted pix of.

The AIS is mounted at the front of the motor just behind the regulator....and is piped into both cylinders, it injrcts the air into the exhaust port as it opens...
I'm getting an LA Choppers xXx Big Air Kit...looks like this...$195.00 delivered from http://www.sscustomcycle.com/ they have good prices on parts for several brands and models...

I'm still here. I figured out the pop was a bad exhaust gasket that I had reused. I know I know always replace the gaskets. That's what the guys at the local shop told me, I'm gunna tear into it tomorrowand se if I can fix it

Well I fixed the gasket, and the pop stoped. That's all it was apparently the 07-09 1300 does not need a pcIII or a FI2000 if you just replace the pipes but if you replace or modify the airbox you need one. That's what all of my reading the the guys at my local shop have told me.

I purchased a 2003 Vstar 1100 a few months ago after not having a bike for over a decade. I'm 6'-5" and about 235 lbs so the bike felt a little small, however most bikes, even the Road King I rented in Vegas felt small. But, I bought 4" foot peg extenders from a company on Ebay, installed them in about 20 minutes and now it is a very comfortable bike. All in all I'm pleased with the quality and the performance of the bike, and all for a good price.
Like the previous post mention, it sounds like a sewing machine because the exhaust is quiet. I removed my exhaust inserts just to see what it would sound like and there seems to be good potential there for some noise. Have fun. |

Well I’m new to the forum and came here for some advice, I want to turn my 2007 V star 1300 tourer, which I use for weekend rides with my wife, into a single sitter lower noisier toy for short rides, but as many of us I want to do it without having to put too much money into it.
The plan: Sell the windshield, back rest and bags from the tourer kit and turn the money into a lowering kit, cobra exhaust slip on, power commander if needed “big question on this one”, and some kind of kit to make the rear of the bike looking fatter lower and less fender “maybe a bobber look”. Well let’s hear you all, am I crazy or do you think this is doable? |

i'm just bored of the stock look, love the bike and don't want to trade it for a toy new bike, rather do the work and turn it into a solo toy.
i want to use bolt on accessories in case i regret it hahahahahaha we will see if it is feasible, i'm still doing some research ![]() thanks for your input though, i truly like my V star so i don't want to sale it just because i'm bored |

Do you know about http://www.sscustomcycle.com/. I might look around his site and see what you can see. He (Shane) really is a nice person to talk to too.

yes, they have one that i like a lot "Fat-Kat13" I'll give them a call, but after some research today, I'm going for something more conservative, I'm thinking of keeping the rear end of the bike and just buying a lowering kit along with a potato chip seat for a lower riding position, and cleaning the fender with a kuryakyn license plate lay down kit and some red bolts to cover the holes for the passenger sit.
I'm selling the back rest and windshield to make some money for these parts, if anyone is interested, just let me know. |

it is a nice area to ride; specially up the mountain.
but with work and family all i can do is just short rides. i used to do longer rides while i lived in miami. i used to have a Suzuki Vstrom 650, awesome bike but found a deal on this one and jumped on it. well i'll keep you all informed in the progress, so far i have the rear seat off and the back rest pad off, waiting to sale the windshield and the back rest to buy the lower seat and the lowering kit. found a link for a license plate mod to do without buying an expensive lay down bracket. ![]() |

Has anyone installed a Cobra slip on exhaust in a V star 1300?
the question is, do you need a power commander of some kind of mix control module because of the exhaust change? ![]() |

I am not recommending any particular method. I will tell you the way I did mine and what others have recommended to me. But you will get varying opinions on this. It was recommended to me that a fuel precessor should be your first performance purchase. I know this will benefit the stock 1300 due to its lean condition in the lower RPMs, fact. I went with the Cobra PowrPro CVT. quoted from Shane at SS Custom Cycle, "First it offers flawless tuning, it requires nothing else, plug it in and forget about it. It will self adjust and modify to what you have now and to any mod you add in the future. It is a larger investment but, one that you will not regret. This unit also delivers fuel by demand, the harder ya hit the throttle the more it responds. This also means if you like to take it easy and just cruise you will retain excellent mpg with this unit. IMO it is the best that can be had". Below are my list of mods/changes from stock. I did the fuel processor and intake and had to wait a month for the muffler on b/o. I do believe if you have acess to a dyno other processors could be adjusted to outperform the CVT. Have fun!
Leather Connexion Saddlebags, OEM Headlamps, Electrical Connexion Turn Signal Conversion Kit, Knight Riderz Sequential LED Light Bar, 1126 Springs, Wagner LiteBrite Bulb, Buck's Lowers, SSCC Original Air Kit, External Crank Vent Breather, Cobra PowrPro Tuner, Cobra Slip-On Muffler, Avon Grips, RSTD Bars, Lindby MultiBar, OEM Luggage Rack, OEM Billet Passenger Floorboards, Kuryakyn Powerpoint, XM Radio, Ultimate 4-Piece Seats, Rotella T6 5W-40, Mobil 1 M1-108 Filter and Gold Plug. |

I'm sure I will be saying the same thing when I say the one thing I would change is the handlebars. I am 5'9 and the handlebars are meant for someone 6 foot or taller. When riding, after an hour, I get a sharp pain in my upper back.
One thing I did do was change out the exhaust. I put on a full exhaust; Vance & Hines Big Shots. Great sounding muffler. I also did my own home made factory airbox mod. I drilled several small holes on both sides. 3 rows over and about 16 rows down. It really woke up the bike. Unfortunately, I havent purchased an Fuel Commander yet, but it actually runs great without it, but I'm sure it would run better with it. It doesn't really backfire during deceleration, but it does pop a few times while deceleration, but nothing to be worried about. The 1300's run a bit lean from the factory and I'm sure it's running a bit leaner. It's going to be my next upgrade on my bike as soon as I get the funds. Currently, I'm unemployed due to medical reasons, but searching for a job and I have $1700 in suspension work that needs to be done on my Nissan Armada, so the FI Commander will have to take a back seat. That and I need new clutch plates. If anyone can recommend a set of clutch plates, I'd appreciate it. |

Oh yeah, forgot to mention although I'm sure it was already mentioned. The handlebars from the Roadstar are a direct fit without having to get new brake or clutch cables. I do believe you have to get new grips.

I'm 5'6" and used to have the 2007 Vstar 1300.
When I first bought it, it felt big. One of the things I did was change out the bars and put in the RSTD bars; after this swap, that bike felt so much better and comfortable. I felt I could maneuver it like a smaller bike. I did a Roadhouse muffler swap but it was too bloody loud. I swapped back and went for the drilled method. I too drilled the holes in the air filter box and put a Cobra FI2000CL (I think that was it). It's cheaper than the Power Commander. I hear ya about the funds. I can afford it but it's one of those things where you budget so much for bike because there are so many other things you have to buy too esp. when you're wife says things like -- "you won't buy me a *whatever*, yet you'll buy a *whatever* for your bike?" ![]() Dennis |
