Default First post (Yamaha)

Hi--

I just picked up my first bikes ever last week. All three are Yamahas -- a 1966 YGS-1, a 1966 YL-1, and a 1963 MJ2-T. They all run, are complete, and are in very decent shape.

I purchased a couple old Clymer manuals for these old Yamahas yesterday and am waiting for them in the mail. Me being new to this stuff, are there any resources you guys have found to be helpful or any tips/pointers you can give me on restoring these old Yamahas?

Thanks,
Nick in California

Welcome to the forum. What are your plans with the bikes. Restore all 3 or mix and combine to get one running?

They all currently run and I have ridden each of them around. They all start first kick. Each one looks to be complete in and of itself, too. I don't think I will need parts from one to fix the other. They are also different enough that parts may not be interchangeable between the models anyway.

The plan would be to source any necessary parts for each individual bike from eBay or something along those lines. Ideally, I would be able to tackle each one at a time for a complete rebuild/restore and then on to the next. I would like to start with the YGS1, since it has a moderate leak.

One thing I know I would like is a replacement cylinder head for the right cylinder of the YL-1, as one of the fins is broken off. Another thing I need are the rubber knee pads for the gas tank of the YGS1. The throttles also don't snap back completely or strongly.

Again, any tips or direction would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick
