Sure but a crook is a crook, and many wear 3 piece suits and a tie and
some wear uniforms.... even more then a few hide behind religion or
prominent football schools... well you get my point.

you can follow a lot of those types of stories on ...

bikernews.net

that is a site dedicated to 1% club members.
Sometimes has comments on articles from riders involved.

It's just one part of the overal MC community.

Nahhh....I think they pretty much only give themselves a bad name, even though it may be a truthfull one at times.

Many of the rest of motorcycle riders then try to make themselves look like 1%ers, when in fact they are not. I've seen plenty of "regular" citizens try to put on a coat of badda$$ when they get on their bikes. Some even sport some silly three piece patches which ape the design of a 1%er patch. (But with enough differences to not get them hurt of course.)

While your point is valid, the saying one bad apple spoils the bunch still holds true. Regardless of what your motorcycle costume is people still have their preconceived notions of what the person on a bike they here in the distance is going to be like. The sad truth about it is that Hollywood and stories like these do more to shape that image than anything else.

As one poster recently alluded too"it's a free world" and what cagers think of us enjoying our freedom does not add up to a hill of beans... I often don't look at the cagers they more then often have a look of disdain.

Some laugh at us for being different, just laugh back at them for being the same...

Different?
Around here better than 85% of the bikes on the road are HD or LOOK like them. 75% of their riders look like everyone else from the billy joe badazz bandana to the ridiculous look gyno stirrup highway pegs/boards. A lot of them look like they are in uniform, dressed like they are headed to a Harleyween party. These people may be different from a cager in that they are on two wheels but they are still just the same as any other sorry group.
It used to be one rode to be different but more and more the majority of riders all look the same to me, just like everyone else.
I love bike nights here because I'm one person out of hundreds that shows up on a 30 year old standard UJM, wearing full gear. Definately the different one in the croud.

Speaking of busted gangs, on the radio day before yesterday it was reported the Outlaws were busted in a big sweep. Some 42 arrests, iirc.

Eh, they are usually a cool bunch, always willing to talk bikes. I've never had a problem with them, especially on an individual basis. In a group though? Wow.
Years ago I had a couple of friends that were HD riders. Well, friends as long as it was one on one. If you came across them when they were with their riding buddies they didn't know you.
Last bike night I went to was awesome. Bikes as far as the eye could see, music, beverages. The coolest bike in the place was a 2012 Yam Vmax. That thing commanded attention no matter who you were and the owner was not only very happy to talk machines, he was riding with a small group of HD. I saddled my little classic rice burner with a smile on my face and a giddy chuckle in my belly when I left, knowing that Vmax and my Special were the most unique bikes there that night.
And neither of us were wearing Harleyween costumes so we didn't really fit in anyway.
