As far as how long I've been around? I've been a builder since the late 60's on both coasts (registered with NHTSA, EPA & SAE) and what I wrote was base on my observations and experiences as a rider and builder over the decades. I agree with you that the term "Bobber" has gained prevalence in most recent years but the term itself has been around at least since post WWII. My reference to road conditions was comparing the western states to the northeastern states. I'm not sure how FL. got into conversation but, as long as you bring it up, I grew up here. St. Pete to be exact and I currently live and have one of my shops here in S. Florida. Trust me, I know what a pot hole is. LOL. Again, terminology can be a convoluted thing. What one term used to mean yesterday can mean something else entirely tomorrow. Observations over the years can also be skewed much like looking at a painting. No two people will see the same thing as the other does. Remember, opinions are like a$$ holes....everybody's got one. You don't have to agree with mine nor do I have to agree with yours either. I believe we can agree that, no matter what we call it, backyard engineers have come up with some very innovative concepts for motorcycles over the years that we all can appreciate and admire. As I said previously, OCC is producing bikes, and not just one offs, but they are in no way MASS producing them. As in Honda, Harley, Yamaha, etc. Big difference. As far as Florida is concerned, I could be mistaken but I believe it's on the East coast. And I could be mistaken again but didn't you say east coast verses west coast concerning the chopper thang? Just sayin. Stirring the pot one more time. HAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ![]() Hey, I would really like to see that pepper trick, hope you can show it to me sometime. I bet you must have practiced that for many hours to be able too tell the difference. That must be some fuuuny $hit. Last edited by Kingshead; 05-18-2010 at 04:50 AM.. |

Choppers vs bobbers, meh... custom is what you need to run... and by that I mean your own custom... "If your going to ride a bike you have to make it your own" even something as simple as paint can make it your own bike.
As far as "real choppers" that this article began as... I couldn't afford to buy a "custom" from a store either (even tho my opinion is you can't buy a custom you have to build it) and I took a liking to doing for myself... now understand I have the mechanic skills of a Horse.. but anything i cant handle i take it in. Mine? '74 Kawi Z1 in a Santee frame. It started as a streetfighter (took all the plastic and big seat and fenders off) then became a custom (Santee frame, Big block kit) then .... hmm well general consensus, long forks= chopper... so 6" over forks and a bit more rake. ahhh ridin um need more posts tho in order to paste a pic Cheers |

Unfortunately, No ! we had too many complications with the scamming azz insurance co and the settlement didn't get paid by them ....they just kept finding loopholes ! so I finally went to a lawyer and he said after he read all the pages of mumbo jumbo .....that it was a policy that only paid on loss of limbs or eyesight ! $hitt ! Just my rotten luck ! .....but at least her surgery went well and she's back home .....just gotta have to watch her dealing with her pain and "walker" stage she has to endure as she heals ! The hip replacement surgery is brutal and they have to hammer and grind on bone ! they explained tat it would be a slow process of healing !

K hit the magic number here's my little horse... Have to do some tree work in order to run it so its in... less than operable condition but here's a shot of the rake too... 1150 big block kit '74 Kawi other wise stock components.

Already put this in my help tread but seems fitting here.
Been thinking Bobber for the Triumph so I've done some quick and dirty photo edits to get the look...ish What do ya think? Bars might be a bit high, not really into apes but seems to work |

Here's one my buddy built out of a 79 CB750. He refers to his as a bobber. I guess either way, chopper or bobber, they're still pretty cool.

Isn't chopper by definition "home-made"?

The old world comes back...ingenuity, cost cut backs and then a penchant for design. I remember on bicycles we used to cut the forks off one bike and hammer / extend them onto the existing forks. .it was cool.
best, |

I love the 60s choppers, cut weld and whatever it took to get it on the road. Looking to build!

Nice to see talk about choppers as they really are, not 300mm-rear-wheel, raked-to-the-moon monstrosities.

Yup, I hear them talking about riding an "old school" chopper, then I look at it and it is no more that a "retro" look-alike! I found one from the 60's, an old piglet. Hoping to be able to get it.
