Default Two riders hold a sit-in for motorcycle awareness

Robert Henry and Randy Hauck participated in a 72-hour stationary ride in Copperas Cove, Texas last weekend. The pair of riders want to raise awareness that motorcycles share the road with other vehicles and care should be taken to watch for them.

"I got a question," said Henry to the group of riders outside Dave's Sports Bar and Grill, "Do you see me now? Every one of you is a part of our family, and we are tired of seeing us get run over."

The riders sat on their machines for 72 hours straight, stopping only for short restroom breaks. Henry was astride his 1980 Electra Glide, which was built from used parts. Hauck sat on his 1983 Honda Goldwing. They were both equipped with pillows and blankets to allow for a few cat naps.

"There are too many accidents behind the wheel and too many of our friends are dying needlessly," said Henry. He also mentioned that texting while driving has made it even more dangerous for riders in recent years.

Hauck talked about the aftermath of many crashes ending with the driver saying “I didn't see you”.

The pair raised over $2500 in donations over the weekend. The money will be used for roadway signs and for safety programs to help inform young drivers about the vulnerability of motorcycles on the road.

"These motorcycles are really meant to ride. They aren't meant to live on, but we did what we had to do," said Henry.

Default I agree

I totally agree. I've seen way too many cycle-car crashes where I live. It seems tat sometimes people are just in too big of a hurry to look and py attention to people on bikes.

No trick to this. Those machines are more comfortable than my LazyBoy.

I do admire their actions though.
