![]() I've only ridden around the block to check out one thign or anotehr on the bike when I have been working on it. I never hit the road other than that without it. Used to have a 3/4, but moved to a full face modular, largely because of seeing that diagram above. Best of both worlds; good protection while moving and lots of air when stopped by simply raising the chin bar. Cheers, Mike

In France the gendarmes will have you if not helmeted. Usually, on the spot fine + points off licence.

I love my helmet as much as i love my bike. the two of them are inseparable as i got them to match.
I put enough dents in myself and my dirtbike when I was a kid to know that i probably wouldn't live long without one. my biggest crash was in high school out riding with one of my friends out in the sticks. i went over a hill too fast and ended up landing ass-over-tits and on just the front wheel. i didn't tell my dad I was going out, nor did I mention anything about 'borrowing' his new helmet... I expecting him to be mad when he saw that i put a big gouge in the top of it, but he saw the bruises starting do go down my knees first and asked what happened [they started at my hips, where i nearly castrated myself on the ends of the handlebars]. turns out he was actually proud of me for having the sense enough to wear it since my old one may not have held up as well. |

As a friend told me "rather sweat than bleed". Always. It's optional here in Indiana.

If I start the bike, I'm wearing a helmet. That's just me. I wouldn't think of going around the block and not having my helmet on.

NJ...so i have to. I use a 1/2 helmet. When i go to PA, sometimes on some back roads i might go topless.
But explain this: in Delaware, you don't have to wear it but have to have it with you.

Have to in NJ, but even if we didn't I would. In 1977, my head, with helmet on, lightly struck the dump body of a construction size dump truck that had a bulldozer on a flatbed trailer, after said truck and trailer made a left turn in front of me. I was not injured, just shaken even after being bounced off the truck and across the oncoming traffic lane and through a nice white picket fence, landing in someone's front yard. Ah, it was good to be 23yrs old and bendable. Even though it was quite a light hit, I'm sure it would be a different story if I had not had it on.

Always wear a helmet. I like my face the way it is thank you. Even though here it's optional once your 18 and above, under 18 required by law.

It's funny, because I wear mine quite religiously, but I am in the very small minority out here in Iowa where there is no helmet law. Very few people out here ride with them, and it gives me a chuckle how adamant most are on this site. Makes me happy as I am in the medical profession

I've almost never been on a bike and not had one. Even when I rode with my uncle, he insisted on it.
I actually tried to move my bike the other day out of the street and into the garage and it felt weird not having my helmet on. It's just a 1/2 helmet now until I get some $$$ for a good white modular one, but it's better than nothing. If I didn't wear the helmet, I think my wife would divorce me. |

Now if we can just get you into a three quarter or full face helmet, you might walk away with all your teeth and your nose, should the unthinkable happen. Or maybe you'd look better without them?

We always ride with helmets, always. However, when we bought our last motorcycles we bought half helmets to match. They feel weird compared to our full faced helmets. Kind of like our bicycle helmets. The first big bug or rock I catch in the face I'm going back to my full face.

I read somewhere that 25% of all damage done when you fall off a bike is to the chin area... so full face is the only option for me.

NEVER with no helmet.
I've got kids - so it's irresponsible from my POV. That's just me ... and others may see it differently. dT |

I ride with a helmet, just to stay safe. My imagination is too vivid to think of what can happen without it.

In fact, according to the same stats, 61.4% of all collisions involving a helmeted head occur on the lower half of the head.

I always wear a helmet. now When I was younger I didn't but now that I am getting a little older (wiser) I do My youngest daughter and her husband ride, so I try to set a good example apparently it's working because they both wear helmets. There is a couple we ride with ( they both wear helmets) and he laid the bike down, nobody got seriously hurt but his wife remembers the back of her head bouncing on the pavement.

that killed a good friend of mines' wife... they were only going about 15 mph in the neighborhood and a car cut them off, he hit the curb and she fell off and hit the back of her head on the curb... 2 weeks in coma and then she gave up the ghost. Very sad.

ALWAYS helmet on, only time I don't wear it is if I tooling around the yard to check out something or move the bike to wash it. Full Face! In fact, I've had it for about 6 years now so it's time to think about replacing it. I will admit to not wearing other safety gear though....I ride to work (4 miles all under 30mph) with shorts on. But all other times I'm in Jeans, would like some riding pants though.

Always wear my full face helmet. I used to work at a Kawasaki dealer and heard too many bad stories that started with 'no helmet was worn'.
