Looking for a bike

Yes, I know this question has been answered many times before. But I am a new rider looking for a first bike. When I first started looking I was looking at the ninja250 because I am not looking to go fast just get to school with the least amount of gas used. I would travel about 30miles mostly highway and through mountain passes. After doing research, and sitting on a 250 I dont think it will work very well that when I looked into the ninja500 and gs500e. both seem able to do the commute just fine. Anyway I like the look of the gs500 and i could get one for about $300 cheeper then the ninja. I just want to hear peoples options on the bikes and what do you think would fit me more?

The ninja 500 is a better bike, to most. It's a close call, most of the benefits of the ninja will come through spirited riding. I just prefer the model and brand though as well.

No, I ended up with an 08 650r.

It may not be as sporty looking but a Honda Nighthawk maybe be right up your alley. Standard position, nice looking, 250cc-750cc and of course...it's a Honda! There is a large following of it too(forums).
