it looks like a 2007 (or older) 250....they changed the body a little in 2008, and got rid of that "handle" on the back end

But what about the mirrors and the turn signals, do they indicate it being a different bike or can they be bought? Also the cover over the front wheel.. In the first picture it is not covered..

I'm pretty sure it's not the 250, it looks way too wide for that. Some of the details are off too - the shape of the fairing and headlight is clearly different, and so on. Not to mention, the frame is clearly visible on this one's flank, the older generation of Ninja 250s had the frame concealed.
It looks like a 1990ish ZX10 to me. But it's only got one disc up front and I'm pretty sure the '90 ZX10 had two. So I'm not sure. Last edited by Flying Couch; 06-02-2012 at 07:10 AM.. |

Kawasaki ZZR250. It's a bit different than the Ninja 250 we had here in the States at the time. They were sold in Canada and many other parts of the world, but not in the USA. If you want, good luck. Here in the States they are a grey market import and hard to find, if not impossible.

Could I fit the fairings from the ZZR250 on a regular US 250? The hard part would be finding the fairings, right? lol
Would this work? http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm...olesalers.html Last edited by Roman Legion; 06-02-2012 at 07:55 AM.. |

I would think it won't work without some significant fabrication. The ZZR had a different designed frame, and made of aluminum, as compared to the steel framed Ninja. You can see some more differences under the third generation EX250-H section of the wiki page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Ninja_250R

You could always buy an early 90s ZX6 or a more recent ZZR600. They had a very similar look, and more power. http://www.bikepics.com/kawasaki/zzr600/03/pics.asp

Is the ZZR600 a good starter bike?

Well, if you know what you're doing to begin with. It has a 100hp engine, which isn't slouch by any mean. Most people wouldn't consider it a starter bike, but I think as long as the person respects it and isn't a dummy with his throttle hand. But then again, my "starter" street bike was a 1200cc v-twin.

real big difference between a 1200cc v-twin and an inline 4 600cc...and no, it's not considered a very good starter bike...yes it can be done, but there is a lot less risk (if you want a sport bike) in starting with a twin cylinder bike and NOT an inline 4

Having a hard time finding even a 250 for sale anywhere around me.. Even on cycletrader and craigslist.. I think one at a dealership is still for sale, but I have 2 questions there..
1) Can I buy the motorcycle without a license and transport it home in the bed of a pickup? 2) If I want to change the colour of the bike, would it be easier to repaint it or get new fairings? |

A basic rattle-can paint job is obviously going to be easier on the wallet. But depending on the age and other factors of the bike and it's fairings, I could see a real professionally-done paint job being even more expensive than just replacing them. |

Haha. You could always do one of those godawful herculiner jobs. It's scratch resistant!

By the way, you think a 70 horse bike that can do 0-60 in just over 4 seconds is a safe beginner bike? If a person is going to get into trouble on something like a ZZR, they can just as easily do it on a Sportster 1200. Last edited by Lurch77; 06-02-2012 at 07:52 PM.. |

I'm just going with a 250 for now, may go to the ZZR600 later as I can find them in California much easier than out in the middle of nowhere Virginia..
@castle LOL, It would be a French creation! |

That's a good idea. A good running 250 is reliable, a lot of fun, and cheap to buy and maintain.

Might not hurt to keep your eyes open for some of the 500 twins also. GS500 & 500 ninja. My 2¢.
