2003 Suzuki SV1000S Refurbish

Thought I'd post this for people that want to comment.

I bought this back toward the end of March. It seemed like a good deal when I found it on craigslist, but it was in more rough shape than I originally thought. The paint was scuffed quite a bit, the Two Brothers slip ons were scuffed up and faded, the mileage was off because of an aftermarket sprocket, and the fork seals were shot. The fork oil was leaking down the forks and the front wheel was covered in oil. I still think it was a great deal.

What it looked like when I got it home. It's missing a black frame cover at the moment.

The oil was diiiiirty and had water mixed in with it.


I bought a billet aluminum fender eliminator off eBay for $20 and painted it black. I don't think I could have found a better deal.

Anyone ever seen an air filter this bad? I've realized the previous owner did absolutely jack sh*t to maintain this bike.


Tonight I decided to try and make the slip ons look a bit better. They turned out a lot better than I expected.

So far we've installed:

-New fork seals & fork oil
-Smoked black taillight w/ integrated turn signals
-Smoked black flush mount turn signals
-Fender eliminator
-K&N Air filter
-Swing arm spools
-New stock sprockets & chain
-Polished Two Brothers slip ons to like new condition

Got the tank and seats back on


Took the rear wheel off in order to clean the swing arm and install new sprockets. The owner before me never cleaned it. It was completely filthy.

I don't think I've ever seen air box/filter with so much crap in it. What matters more though, is what the intake side of the filter looked like. Was the filter saturated with dirt?

Nope, that side was clean thank god. The new K&N is installed so we'll see if I notice any difference.

And by the way, I love your bike! I had a TL1000 and its engine's powerband made it one of my favorite motorcycles! I believe the SV1000 has very similar horsepower numbers and the same wide powerband.

Thanks!!! I got a chance yesterday to take it out for a spin since we got it back together. I'm not sure if it was the air filter or not, but it feels like a different bike. I also have a working speedo now since we installed the correct size sprockets. I'll get some photos posted when the weather cooperates.

Well here are a few photos with the bike put back together. I've ridden it to one bike night so far and put about 150 miles on it. I absolutely love it and every Harley rider looked at it when I was at bike night. I'm extremely happy with the results of the new parts. I'm going to leave the belly pan off for now. I'm kind of liking the look of it without.

Thanks. Now that its the middle of winter and I have nothing to do, we are going to start prepping the plastics for paint. The plastics and tank are going to be painted satin black. The frame, subframe, fork tubes, and rear swing arm are going to be sprayed matte black and the wheels will be powdercoated black as well. I can't wait for it to be done!
