New in NC

[Cruise Control]

Howdy folks! Just getting into the motorcycle scene. I'm located in Gaston County, just west of Charlotte, NC. Close enough for day trips to the mountains, which is what really appeals to me. I've always loved riding my bicycle in the mountains.

I rode around the block on friends' small bikes a few times some 30+ years ago, but since then I've gotten my two wheel fix by way of racing bicycles and triathlons. A couple of bad bicycle wrecks in the last decade, and now some lingering knee issues from running, have begun to limit my more physical sporting activities. (Not done yet! Just dialing it back a bit. )

Anyway, I've wanted to get a motorcyle for years and having a couple of friends who ride finally softened my wife's resistance enough to allow me to jump in.

Did a bunch of research, signed up for MSF, and went shopping. I'm now the proud owner of a brand new Suzuki C50T. Watched a ton of YouTube training videos and started practicing in high school parking lot, then some nice quiet country roads that I've ridden probably thousands of times on my bicycle. MSF class is still a couple of weeks out, but I'm feeling pretty good about my progress so far. I'm much more relaxed than those first couple of outings and I'm glad I got past that before the class.

Thanks! I'm very much looking forward to getting up there later this spring. I'm most familiar with the Boone/Blowing Rock/Valle Crucis/Grandfather/Beech areas from cycling. Looking forward to exploring a little further south.
