I found a guy in another forum that got pulled over with his motorcycle permit both at night and on the interstate. That apparently is a first degree misdemeanor and he was arrested. This was in Lake County, Ohio. Unless his details are misleading, (the actions seem a bit out of proportion to me) then that is an extreme case of what to expect.

As far as excuses go, as said before no single excuse really works for all cops, it depends on the individual officer... Unless of course you know, or are related to an LEO, that will usually get you off scott-free.

This is merely hearsay, but here in California (I know it's not OH!!! geez! ;) ), the rider cannot ride the rest of the way and either needs to call someone up with a valid M1 to ride the rest of the way home (assuming there is insurance on the bike). Or, call in the tow trucks.

The rider will get a moving violation on his/her record (ie. a point on driving record) and possibly a fine.

No jail time, is what I hear, here in CA.
