What exactly are you looking for?
Are you trying to avoid traffic and get through it quickly? If so, you can ride around it altogether.
OR
Are you looking to tour through it? If so, I'll sadly admit that NYC is not a place to tour on an MC.

Obviously this doesn't answer your question, provide more details and I'll try.

I will ride from Atlantic City, NJ to New London, CT. My current route will take me into NYC on I-95, across the North Washington Bridge, and on through NYC on I-95 to New London.

Last summer, I traveled from Georgia to Maine and rode far west of NYC in order to avoid the high density traffic. This year, my goal is to hug the east coast as I travel to Maine.

I am looking for any information that will assist me as a travel through or around NYC as I tour the east coast. :71baldboy:

If you're going from AC, just jump on the Garden State Parkway, and take it all the way through the state of NJ. It will take you to I-287 which hugs the NY/NJ border at the bottom of NY State. Head East on 287, go over the Tappan Zee Bridge and connect with I-95 in southern CT...Then just head up 95N thru CT.

This way you avoid the George Washington Bridge, and more importantly, you avoid the Cross Bronx Expressway. The Cross Bronx has some serious pot holes on there that have rattled my spine in a car, and you avoid the numerous Metro NYC drivers who are some of the worst drivers in America. Forget about them being aggressive, they just aren't as used to driving as the rest of America because so many of them use public transportation...That's coming from a native New Yorker, and a guy who drives around the Northeast all the time for my job.

You lose absolutely no time going this route, it's far less congested, and several times safer.

POTHOLES!!!! Living in Florida I do not miss them at all and have had a nightmare or two of hitting one at night and having it cause real damage. I to have hit bone jarring potholes having grown up and driven in NY, NJ, PA and all over. What about frostheaves?

AVOID THE CITY.

Your bike will get destroyed if you go through it. Between gangs if you enter the wrong area, idiot drivers, and congestion, it is BAD NEWS.

Albeit there is a mounted police unit, which I love. Those horses are awesome :]

+1 on that..

that said, reading this post, you guys make NYC sound terrible. I commute everyday from westchester to lower manhattan on my motorcycle (katana 600). It's fun because I spend so much time lane splitting on the I-87 and more fun on the relatively narrow FDR.

Potholes suck but I mostly spend half my ride standing on the footpegs lol.
