Summer riding in Phoenix...

For me the heat alone is enough to make me leave the bike at home and use the air conditioned car. I don't know how you guys in places like Phoenix can enjoy riding when it gets in the high 90's or higher. Yesterday in northwestern Illinois it hit about 92 and riding was great, as long as I was moving. Sitting at a red light was miserable. But once it gets much higher than that the fun factor of riding just doesn't happen for me. And I'm not one of those ATGATT folks; I have no problem wearing jeans and a t-shirt but it still gets too hot for me. What makes it more comfortable for me is to wear a long sleeved synthetic t-shirt that allows liberal air flow, such as one I have from Silver Eagle, but when the air gets really hot, even good airflow is just not enough.

I started riding in IL, very familiar with the humidity. Everybody says, yeah but it's a dry heat...we can hit up to 70% at time during the summer storm season...with highs at 105* +. Like you said, as long as im moving its no biggie. When stopped is when things heat up. Personally, I don't own a car a ride everyday, but I've become somewhat of a junior meteorologist and pay close attention to the weather.
