I'll be getting the network card tomorrow for the file server I'm setting up. I've installed Ubuntu Linux on the machine already. I plan on running Samba for the Windows PCs to access the shares and ushare to stream media to the XBox 360 for viewing movies on TV.

A network cable needs to be run to the basement yet, but I have the rec area already wired with ethernet wall jacks, so the hard part is done. :)

I built the system from old parts I had around from past upgrades.

I haven't tried it yet, but do you know if ushare works for streaming to PS3 as well?

It's supposed to. There is an additional setting that needs to be turned on in the conf file is all.

I got the network card installed and server running with samba and connected my Windows PCs to the shared drive. I haven't set up the 360 streaming yet, but it has got to be easier than setting it up on the OS running on the virtual machine. :D

I couldn't find any CAT5 connectors, and I guess Radio Shack has stopped carrying them, so I have a temporary network cable running down to the basement. I'll see if the IT manager at work can part with a couple tomorrow.

Hardware stores are usually where I buy those...

I'll give ushare a shot.

It works well once installed and configured correctly. The biggest problem I had was figuring out that the different IP addresses were stopping up the works.
