View Full Version : Chinese 50cc moped - Dies without throttle; idle problem

I am having a problem with a 50cc Chinese generic scooter.

It worked 2 weeks ago (when the rear tire blew). I got the new tire on and re-assembled everything.

It starts and runs, but if I let go of the throttle, it simply shuts off. I assume this is some sort of idle issue.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

try adjusting the idle on the carb.

you will find two screws, one is the idel, the other is the mixture.
if your able to keep it running by turning the throttle then its likely to be the idle is too low.

In most cases these chinese scooters are the same as a honda or yamaha, I have a chinese scooter by Jonway. the engine is a CN250 without the honda stamp.they are made in the same factory.

that being said, not all factory are the same over there.

you may be able to find the parts at
partsforscooters.com or orderscooterparts.com
both specialize in chinese scooter parts.

The chinese knockoffs are made with inferior castings and second rate materials. They may be copies of hondas (often illegal btw) but don't expect them to have the same reliability.

Without seeing your carb, it is hard to give specific instructions, but here is some general advice. If it is a two stroke engine, the throttle cable will usually go in the top of the carb. There will be a screw going into the side of the carb down from the top of the cylinder that the throttle cable goes into. (That is the slide area)
The screw, when turned in, will raise the slide and increase the idle.
If the engine is a four stroke, the throttle cable will go down to a half round plate on the right side of the carb. Twist the grip, and watch what moves. When you release the grip, watch what the half round plate stops against. It is a screw with a spring around it, screwed into a plate that holds it so that it contacts the plate and stops it from closing any farther. Screw the screw in to raise the idle speed.

I'm new, so I can't insert a link, so PM me and I will give you the site that will get you up to speed on carb adjustments.
Good luck, CZ
