Hi there,

I have a 1978 Suzuki GT50 2 stroke 5 speed. It's an old bike obviously, and has been anything but mechanically sound since I bought it last year for cheap and have been restoring it since. It's the first thing i've restored so the job isn't that great and I didn't want to spend much money on it because it's not rare or anything, it was just to learn. I've learnt a great deal.

Anyway, I had it running mint 3 weeks ago and was using it as a daily rider, it revved well and reached about 80kph with ease. I had cleaned out the carb, replaced all the seals and gaskets in the top end, done a bit of a port and polish, cleaned the air filter, among other things. Then the fuel tank developed a leak so that was repaired, which took 2 weeks and I only got it back today.

I put the tank back on the bike, connected it up and filled it up then kicked the bike over and it started fine and idled... I let it warm up for about five minutes and then tried to ride it, only to find that above half throttle the revs die off and if I don't bring it back down it will die completely. I kept it running for a further 10 minutes to see if it will fix it but nothing changed, bringing the choke out made no difference, only made it idle higher. I played around with the mixture screw but nothing has changed since I took the tank off 2 weeks ago, it has just been sitting in the garage.

I figured that when the tank was repaired there was still some rubbish in there that may have clogged up the carb so tonight I cleaned out the carb and will put it back on the bike tomorrow and try again.

Any suggestions as to why it would have a fit after two weeks of sitting in a garage without a fuel tank?

Thanks

Have you tried changing the spark plugs?

Check tomake sure that your exhaust isn't plugged up with carbon and oil fouling. 2 smokes are bad about that. Can't breathe.
