Link to them there. I wear a plain old pair of $40 sturdy leather work boots with no ankle protection at all. I bought them initially so that I could have some protection on my feet without spending that much money.

I want to upgrade now and have been looking at Sidi's Vertigo/Vortice boots, but I have a few concerns. First off, I really would like something with ankle and shin protection, and these boots look extremely protective overall which is my #1 concern. The only thing I'm worried about is how comfortable they are. Honestly, they gave me the impression that they'd give you ski or snowboard-boot walk. Ya know, where it looks like you're walking on your heals. Are they comfortable to wear and walk in? I ride my bike everywhere, to work, school, and on the long joy rides as well as track days. I want boots that I can wear to work, school, and on the long joy rides. I think as long as these don't make me walk like a goofy ******* then I'm interested.

Sidi's are extremely comfy. you can wear em all day if you don't mind looking like a storm trooper.

the "ski boot" walk would happen with a boot like the Gaerne GRS, or a moto-x boot. most road race boots are generally more comfy and less restrictive.

sidi's have a particular fit though--good for narrow feet. Another boot that will fit your needs is the Alpinestars SMX+, which is another popular boot. btw, the sidi vertigo doesn't have ankle protection, but the vertigo corsa does. the vertigo corsa has been discontinued and replaced by the vortice.

i'd try them on. sidi's are awesome, but i'm not sure the vortice is worth $475 :(

Sidi look sick, and perform well, but they are just too darn expensive... You can find cheaper stuff and get pretty much same features...

Sorry to bring this post up again, but check these out, they are a lot more economical, (still sidi) great ankle and heel protection, great ventilation for those hot summer days, and they don't look like alien spacesuits...

My squad leader used to have a pair of Sidi's and swore by them.
