Loud Pipes

I love the deep rumble of louds pipes on a motorcycle. If I wasn't a college student, I'd have aftermarket pipes on mine. However, I think there's a limit. I don't like the kind of pipes that have that shrieking CRACK when they go by. I think it should be a low rumble you feel in your chest like on old muscle cars.

The reason I bring this up is because I heard the loudest pipes ever today. A guy drove by (never saw him in this town before) on a very large bike that looked custom. I would believe it if you told me it had something over a 300 CI engine in it, like a custom boss hoss or something. The exhaust didn't even sound like a straight pipe so much as no pipe, like the headers were just open. It sounded like a cannon every time a cylinder fired and was like getting shot in the sternum. At that point you just sound retarded IMHO.

Anything that loud, car/bike/locomotive or aircraft, is just annoying. It is people that are willing to go so far over the top that cause a backlash against motorcycle noise that make life more difficult for all of us.

I don't know, I like both. However, I have a sweet spot in my heart for things that are done to the max. When I was 17 I had a 1992 2-door Cavalier that I crammed 2 15 inch JL subwoofers and a 1000 watt amp into. I have a feeling that if I pulled up next to that bike with those poundin, you wouldn't have been able to even hear the bike.

This thing sounded like a stick of dynamite, only repeating. I'd be surprised if a car would be able to wash the sound out, but it would be interesting to try. Even with subs at least it's some type of music instead of "noise". I like loud stuff, but I don't like annoying loud stuff. ;)

I don't like annoying loud, deep rumble is ok, but I don't wanna hear anybody's bike from 6 blocks away. Don't wanna hear their music (if thats what you try to call it) either when they're next to me at a stop light.

Granted, I was probably exaggerating a bit. However, the speakers in that car would vibrate smoke off of a lit cigarette, and vibrate your eyeballs so that you couldn't see straight while driving down the road.:eek:

Has anyone gone to see a NHRA top fuel drag race? I was walking through the pits and when they would fire up one of those cars, even from 40 or so feet away the sound was something you felt. Any closer and the sound was so loud it hurt without hearing protection. That is loud.

Going off of badlands post I realized that I didn't explain the type of sound this guy had. It wasn't like a dragster or anything like that. Have you guys heard a honda with new pipes before it's tuned? It has this hollow sound like kicking a tin can down a sewer pipe. This was a really loud version of that. lol
