View Full Version : Overtight?

Alright well I successfully removed and reinstalled my first motorcycle wheel. I have just one concern. I torqued the axle nut to spec but then the notch on the axle nut and the cotter pin hole didn't line up so I tightened the nut a little more to line them up. I was wondering if that would have any kind of detrimental effect on my bike...or me.

I don't bother torquing the axle nut. I'll just tighten it up real good (almost completely tight) then tighten enough so that the carter pin lines up with its slot.
I was told not to worry about overtightening. I think the way the wheels and bearings are designed it's very hard to tighten it so much that it damages anything.

If it is a little bit over tightened there won't be a problem.
