Does anyone know of a motorcycle specific boot that laces up and comes reasonably far over the ankle? I would like a boot around 9 inches high, but I can't seem to find any purpose built boots that high that have laces. I would like to spend less than $150.

Check out Harley Davidson brand.
These are the ones I wear. There are several different types and all are well-made. They are available from a lot of different retailers. I got mine for about $90.

Thanks Dods...I have heard a lot of good things about HD boots. I tried a few pairs on locally, but they didn't feel right. I have always had trouble finding a good fit with street shoes.

I am thinking of trying this boot out:http://www.newenough.com/boots/waterproof_sport_street_touring_boots/tour_master/response_sc_motorcycle_boots.html

From the reviews I have read, owners seem to be happy with it except the soles wear a little quicker than some other boots. I never drag my feet, so I will tempt fate and give them a try. People with wide feet like these boots as well. Anybody here ever wear these?

I used to wear lace up boots, but because they did such a good job of isolating my ankle movement (bad ankle form an injury) they made it hard to shift. I do not have a heel/toe shifter. That would have helped.

I ended up going with the Tour Master Response SC Boots (link is above). They aren't as high as I would have liked, but they come about 2 inches above the ankle so it should be pretty good protection. A lot of the reviews I read complained about the upper being stiff when new, but the boot seems to be breaking in pretty well. I walked around in the store the other day and forgot I had them on. The real test will be when I can finally ride to work again. The lace cover panel makes the boots look like they are pull on boots. Thick (1.8 - 2.0 mm) leather and some small ankle armor for a pretty good price.

I was looking at Wolverine, Red Wing Irish Setters, and Sears just trying to find a pair that was made of heavy leather and were comfortable. Years ago, I put my Red Wings on at 5:30 A.M. and didn't take them off until after 7:30 P.M. every day. That was the comfort I was looking for. I found that comfort in a pair of Survivors at Walmart for $42.50. They have 4 eyes the lace goes through then 4 hooks for easy tieing, and a 8" top.
I don't know what makes a boot "Motorcycle Specific".

Edited to add that they look just like the Harley boot shown, but without the Buckle and Logo. Same big sole.

edited again to point out that the Harley boot has a stitched welt. Mine is glued, which may not be as strong. I dunno.....

I'm rather partial to Magnum boots. Available at Academy. Well built, rugged, reasonable price. I get at least 2 often 3 years from a pair.

Well, I should have listened to the reviews about the soles of the Tour Master Response SC Boots wearing fast. I am not slipping yet, but the tread is just about gone. The rest of the boot is holding up very well, they have kept my feet dry several times this year and they are very comfortable for wearing at work, so I am pretty disappointed. These boots will last the rest of this year, but I will probably need a new pair early next season.

If you do use laceup boots, be absolutely certain that you tuck the laces....Laces suck on a motorcycle. Getting stuck on shifters, pegs...go to stop at a stopsign and dump the bike because your foot is tied to the shifter.

Laces = BOO

Red Wings are quite nice. Comfortable, good strong steel toes, sturdy soles.

That is what is so nice about Tour Masters. They have a velcro flap to trap the laces. Hmmm...I wonder if I could get new soles put on those boot.

You can get them re-soled, but it's almost as expensive as buying new boots.

This thread is geting a bit stale, but I'm wondering. How do the soles of your boots wear out so fast?

It is just normal wear and soft soles. I am definitely not a foot dragger on the bike, nor do I "paddle" my feet when I start and take off. I do wear the boots at work when I ride in, which is quite often, but that is mostly on carpet and I am at my desk most of the day, so I doubt that is a factor. I chalk it up to poor quality rubber on the boot.

Interesting - especially about the soles wearing so fast. I have some military boots - combat boots - from 18 years ago with good soles. . . makes me wonder.

Consider FAMMZ 10" high boots. They are nice and well constructed. Price is also in your range under US$ 140.

They are selling at http://www.bikeapparels.com/
