it looks too much like a Harley to me. The new Thunderbird has a 1600cc parallel twin engine.

I am buying a triumph speedmaster in the very near future and have been hanging around some triumph forums. I saw a thread that it might arrive at dealers in may this year. I think it looks to (jap) kinda plastic and cheap but I have not seen it in person. A good looking bike none the less.

I am going to give it two or three years for them to work out the kinks then I might try to trade my speedmaster in for one.

Looks like a Harley? Ok, so what style is this big cruiser supposed to have? It's a popular style so why not get a model in that market?

WOW - that is one bad bike - I might just hold out for that one. I think I found my next bike :)

After seeing the Harley V-rod when it first came out (wasn't a fan), the crossbones, the rocker, etc., I'm glad someone is still doing Harley-style bikes :) Looks pretty nice to me.

Not impressed. Just a typical cruiser. Should have done a factory cafe-racer, or something.

It looks like the Sportster to me. Boring.

They did build a factory cafe racer. It is called the Thruxton. A very nice bike too. The traditional cruiser bike is what they are mising and the thunderbird is made to fill that void.

The local dealer had one available for demo rides and I managed to sit on it for a bit and it was very nice. It's a big bike and has a huge tank. Fit and finish looked very well done.

I test rode a Thunderbird last Saturday at the dealership in Greensboro, NC. I am not going to wait for any kinks to be worked out. I am not going to wait for any improvements. I am buying that bike in January! What a ride!

I've done a lot of research in the last 6 months because I'm in the market for a cruiser. (Currently on a 2007 Yamaha FZ6 which I plan to keep as well).
For those of you that think it looks like a Harley, you're not too far off. The Thunderbird was designed, in part, to go up against the Harley Dyna Super Glide Custom. Interestingly enough, the Dyna was the bike I was about to buy but some lingering doubts, coupled with feeling like I was getting my teeth rattled out of my head on top of that choppy HD V-Twin made me hold off. It didn't help matters that one of the three HD dealers I tried to make a deal with told me that he couldn't "devalue the Harley brand" by selling me the Dyna I wanted at 7% over invoice. He needn't have worried. Harley has done a good job of devaluing itself in 2009 with plant shut downs, discontinuing Buell and desperately seeking a buyer for Augusta.

Still, this post isn't about Harley bashing although you can tell I had a bad experience. I'm just glad I waited and then on a whim I decided to look at Triumphs. It was worth the wait. The Thunderbird is one hell of a bike and can't wait until I get mine.

I already own one. I pre-ordered a bird and took delivery back in July. I've got 3500 miles on her. She is in the shop right now, not for any problem but for installation of the big bore kit.

It really is an amazing bike. This is how a cruiser should handle. You can throw it in and out of corners with ease and it keeps what ever line you put it on. The cruiser riding position isn't extreme so you retain good control and comfort on the bird. If you get a chance to try one out, do yourself a favor and take it.
