Any suggestions, things to look out for? Wondering if it's better to buy new or used.

The TW's are great bikes. I have had mine for 2 years and I love it. If you are looking to use it for more on road than off road, you may want to look at another bike. These bikes are light so highways are iffy and the top end on these bikes stock is about 75 mph. You can change sprockets to get a little more top end out of it but you will lose torque for the trails. Offroad these things are awesome though, the big rear tire and first gear will go just about anywhere. Great bike though, if you don't mind taking your time on the street you will be real happy with the gas mileage. Street riding I consistantly get 75 mpg, a little less on the trails. Simple bike to work on, I bought mine brand new in 2007. If there are any used ones in your area, I would consider going to check them out. They seem to hold there value and if you found one for a decent price that needed a little work, it probably wouldn't be too expensive or too hard to fix. engines are bulletproof.

I,ve got an 86 model TW and really enjoy playing on it. I ride mostly backraods and rails , but occasionally get out on the highway to get from one place to another and it will run the speed limit but not much more without really running hard,
I bought mine used for $1000 about 5 yrs ago.... a new one is a bit over $4k
If you can find a good used one, thats what I'd do, cuz it's just a toy for me.
