Ok so I am kind of confused when it comes to looking for pants. I am not sure what I should be looking for, pants or over pants. I like the fact that I can take off overpants but I don't want to sacrifice protection for that. Regular bike pants also look like they would be uncomfortable. Could someone here please share their wisdom with me? And what are some good pants for a reasonable price?

A lot of overpants can be worn as regular pants, so I don't think you will be sacrificing a lot of protection. It would really depend on what you are wearing underneath. Right now, I am only wearing the Courtech mod denim pants. They are a little heavier denim with knee pads and leather lining on the knees, hips and butt. They are very comfortable and I feel much safer than I did when I was wearing regular jeans. That being said, I plan on wearing overpants when I start commuting on the highway in the spring. The denim feels pretty good, but I think I want something more out on the highway in rush hour and the ease of use of the overpants looks like it will do the trick. I am considering wearing shorts underneath in the hottest months. If you are looking for something extra check out bohn armor. I haven't used it, but a friend wears it when he wants to ride the bike but can't show up in motorcycle pants. He wears the armored pants under street pants. Also, you can check out webbikeworld for good reviews and newenough.com when you are ready to buy. Not a lot of information, but I hope it helped a little. :)

I have a pair of over pants, like a jacket for my legs. They have pads in knees and hips and are mesh. Comes with wind/rain liner and a thermal liner. One thing with the over pants, I would feel like a big dork walking around the store in them so if I want to go to the store, bank, etc...I will just wear jeans. I bought a pair of chaps and I'll see how those work.

Ya but if you crash with out them you will feel like a big dork as well

I concur. I think I rather where the overpants into a store and have all of my flesh.

If I am on a "hooligan mission" :D I'll take my Olympia with armor. If I'm going to another town with friends dinner...maybe not. If it's kinda cold I might put wind pants over my jean. If it's seriously cold...FirstGear one piece suit. There ain't no guarantees in this sport - just stack the deck in your favor as much as you can. For casual protection i'm still considering 'Draggin Jeans":

I just wish I had 1 set of gear.
Maybe for Christmas I will get some.
jacket, pants, gloves any thing at all would beat nothing.
I guess I could ware my skate board gear, but I don't think it would help much
O well at least I have a cheap dot full face helmet.
Wishfull in Indana :D

From what I understand, the chaps are pretty good protection so I will keep my flesh. Hope I don't land on my butt tho and I still wear the armor most of the time.

Does anyone use chaps. I like the idea of the overpants, but a folded up set of chaps would fit into my bags easier. I want something that I can take off when stopped.
